Thinking of getting this off of MAF... anyone have any pics / advice / install instructions? I'm wondering if you need to weld on the top 'plate'...

front or rear?

Front, no you don't need to weld it on

Rear, you'll need spring perches or some such on top of the axle to hold the plate flat.

Sweet, thanks... anyone have real-life testing of these? Worth it?

? The upper perches in the rear sit right on top of the axle tube, no welding or other modifications required.

Are they worth it? I don't know. I've run them for awhile but I'm not a hard core wheeler. My thinking was less to hang up given that I'm running fairly small tires (31s about to be 32s) and don't plan on going much larger. But I don't know if it's really made a difference for me. If you were sprung under and really wheeled hard it would probably be worth it.

I put them on my 60 and really like them. No welding required at all. I noticed 3 minor bissues with the kit.

*My u-bolts where not quite wide enough, but I could bend them a little and they fit.
*The top and bottom brackets where nicely painted but the u-bolts were bare metal, little black spray paint solved that problem.
*I bent the front upper plates a little trying to torque down the u-bolts cause they hang over the stock perch a bit. So I would be careful not to tighten them anymore then necessary. The rear is a very nice design.

In your sig you mention flat springs on your 60. I would not do a flip kit now, but rather at the same time when you replace the springs and shocks.

Here is a pic. I like the way it looks so much cleaner under the vehicle.

I like mine too, although they have bent like Dave-T's and the shock mounts are a little sketchy - IMO.

Hmmm... wonder if my alcan spring packs are too thick..

I only installed mine on the front - I'd be wary of balancing a flat plate on a round tube and expecting it to stay put under torque - but to each their own I guess. Personally, I'd rather have a flat spring perch on top of the axle tube to keep the plate in place.

Huh? The rear, on a 62 anyway, has the same flat perches as on the front axle and all four flip kit plates work just fine. Aren't 60 rear axles pretty much the same as the 62?

I think there is a difference between the front and rear axle. The front axle has "ears" for the u-bolts, and the 4+ plate sits on these ears. The rear axle does not have these same ears, and the stock u-bolts go over the axle, not over the "ears." However, the pic of the 4+ flip shows that for the rear there is a provision to help the plate sit solidly on top of the axle tube.

Uh, I guess I should have gone out to the garage and looked before opening my mouth, so to speak. My bad!! :o

Do I need to take a better pic of mine?

I guess you better, my '82 60 has nothing on the top of the axle tube. It uses round u-bolts over the top of the tube.

I was basing my recommendation to the OP based on experience with my rig.

The top plate in the rear flip kit is not flat. It is not a flat piece of stock balancing on the tube. Due to recent knee surgery I can't crawl under the truck right now or I'd snap a pick. Sorry.

Well why didn't you say so earlier, ha. No wonder I'm all confused - I bought mine used and figured both front and rear were the same as mine weren't sold to me as "front" or "rear"

BTW, I really liked how they cleaned up my front end but I wish the lower plate was thicker as mine has conformed to the curve of the spring pack and i'm not sure I trust the grooves as the metal there is fairly thin.
