No kidding? All that rust was from the case of the filter itself?

(Edit: first => filter, stupid gesture typing)

Yes. Some of that is the paper element still stuck to the lining, but there is rust under it. Just on one side (the side that faced down).

Fuel tank looked brand new inside.

Pro auto in St George UT did it for free in like 10 minutes when I got my oil changed. I've been there though.
Maybe you paid for a fuel filter replacement. They sure as hell didn't change it out in 10 minutes.

Check your receipt for the part number.

I can change 909171022 In 10 mins.

If you mean the one at the firewall end of the fuel rail, it's 22 ft-lbs.

It looks like all the union and flare connections for fuel are 22 ft-lbs.

I meant what the specs were to change to accept a bango AN fitting. Would be a cinch to place a filter where ever and use AN hose to go to the rail.

This is what’s at the tank:

12mm x 1.25

You could go AN the whole way or tap into the hardline somewhere of your choosing.

The fuel filter is such a longterm use item that changing it once every 5+ years isn't worth changing it from its factory setup IMO. Just throwing a possible option out there.
