I want to do my bearings on all corners (full floating) and I have the manual etc...but what I;d like to know is whether it requires anything special and approx. the time it takes. Any hints to make the going easier? I was planning on using a saltwater proof grease, but I'm open to suggestions.

Moose,

IMO the one tool that is crucial is the bearing adjuster nut wrench (09509-25011) for the rear full floater that without which it would be hard to adjust the bearing preload. People have made their own, but IIRC it wasn't too unreasonably priced.

To get the cone washers off, soak them in PB Blaster or WD40 for several days and use a brass drift to hit the studs head on, or use a small screwdriver to insert into the small opening like the FSM says. lowenbrau and Behemoth60 had a website that tells you how to make modify an ordinary screwdriver I think. Hendrix Motorsports also makes a special tool for US$20 to pull the hub off w/o removing the cone washers first, but I never used it:

Assuming you've never done a front axle rebuild before, for the front, get a 2 1/8" socket (54mm?) to get the bearing nuts off. For removing the CV/birf retaining clip, I like to use a retaining clip plier (Leslie, Craftsman, etc.)

You are doing the seals too I take it? Plenty of websites that show the knuckle rebuild. Same procedure as a 40 or a 60.

if you need the socket for the front you can borrow mine it should be the same sizer nut as a mini truck right? Saves ya from buying that tool! also do the inner axles shaft seal on the front and repack the birfs and check the king pin bearings as well.

I thought bearing preload was 14lbs.

Geeez stone where are you getting coho that big and when are we going.

Like I said...a half-decent coho. :D Ask Sheldon about the 20+lb coho that he had on his flyline the one year. The guy had a throng of spectators following him up and down the gravel bar as he was fighting this monster. Call me in the Fall, we'll go chuck feathers at big northern Cohos.

In the fall, Wayne. But I don't take out people who chuck guts. :D So get those fly casting skills up to speed. Just kidding. If you don't flyfish, you can throw spoons or spinners, but I don't have any tackle to lend you as all of my gear is fly only. Cheers.
