After the 500 mile break in and oil change I decided to run on up to the fourdyce trail and see how they worked. I said only half the story, because only half the axles were done. I was jonesing for some rocks so I went for it in 2lo ARB locked. What a difference gears and a locker make. Adventure 2wheeling at its best.

signal peak trail, turned around at this point

shot before going down to creek which was not crossible yet, too high and fast. I didn't go down the "sluice" because I thought I might be too tempted to engage the front axle (still 4.11s) on the way up. Wonderful day

need to delete some attachments to post more pics or buy a star?

so anyway, I really dig the 4.88s grunt offroad good match for 37s and an A440. ARB is amazing when it would engage. About half the time the compressor would run and I could here air blowing through the diff. breather. The other half of the time it just run for a second then engage. O-rings installed funny? A jeeper I ran into on the way down said he thought the compressor wasn't supplying enough pressure? But he also refused to believe I was in 2 wheel drive.

I would also stall the engine when in reverse wasn't so bad in 2high but 2lo would do it every time. Never had this problem with 4.11s and 37s. Torque converter?

Great pictures...I saved the first one...I am dreaming of taking my truck off road....but lately I am just happy to drive it to work...

What type of gears did you end up running? I am about to make the move to 4.88's and want to know if you like yours. Do they whine, chatter, etc.?

Usually qhen you run for first time ( for example in a week or so ) it need to fill all compresor bottle, lines and finally the locker .. after that it keep the botle full and only need to fill the lines and locker to engage.

When you shut off the locker and compresor it release the air in the compresor throught pressure swith ( solenoid )

check your axle beathers ..

db, I went with sierra gears from kurt at Cruiseroutfitters (great help) and so far they seem ever so slightly louder than the stock 4.11s but tolerable.

Tapage, the compressor switch was always in the on position and only had to fill the bottle once, when I would engage the locker switch the compressor would sometimes run for a very long time (30-45seconds) before i shut it off in fear of burning it up while it was running, I could here and feel the air blowing out of the breather valve, which I thought meant that the breather valve was working (lets air out not in?). Other times while engaging the locker the compressor would run for a second or two and it would engage, so I was thinking that the o-rings are o.k. but I new to the ARB so I don't know?

Cali, I'm down in San Mateo for a while working by way of Missoula, Mt. Where's Jackson?

i just got an arb rear locker on my fj60, like just this past weekend. ive looked at it and crawled around and i dont see a "bottle" (which i assume is basically as small holding tank for the air pressure the compressor generates).

the compressor is mounted under the hood and then blue line is run back to the rear axle.

where is this bottle then? it cant be inside the axle itself can it?

maybe i just need to look some more but i swear i looked at the entire length of line and didnt see any bottle.

one love

The compressor can run for several minutes (or longer?) without causing harm, I have used mine to air up tires numerous times and never has a problem. If you are getting any amount of air out of the differential breather, most likely your o-rings are leaking a bit....

Here is some good ARB tech...

There are someting wrong ..

In one oportunity my front ARB after several month without use won't engage .. So I'm really worried about it ..

I go in a rear gras camp and engage the hubs .. and magic it engage again without problems .. :D

jb- I think the bottle that Tapage is referring to is the storage tank in the compessor, it is small and looks like part of the compressor. Or some run a small storage tank from between compressor and locker to keep the load off the compressor.

Kurt- thanks for the links and stupid me threw my new crush sleeve away while making room in the garage for new roommates and I was really cruising on the diff. assembly would like to have it in by this weekend. I will call you tommorrow and maybe we can get some next day freight thing going on. thanks,
Nick

I'm twin locked with 4.88s on swamper Q78's and the difference is awsome. If you go over 35, then go 4.88's. 35's suit 4.56.
