For those of you passing through Albuquerque Wed evening and departing Thursday morning, I've arranged for a meeting location and time if you want to caravan.

At the SE corner of the intersection of Hwy 528 and 550, there is a gas station with a Wendy's next to it. This is west of the Rio Grande river and the town of Bernalillo and at the far north end of Rio Rancho. It's a good place to gas up and has ample space for several trucks to park while waiting for the rest of the caravan to show up. The meeting time for this caravan is set for 10 AM. This will put us in Cuba about 11:30 or Bloomfield/Aztec about 1 for lunch and Ouray about 4 PM.

Right now I have the following folks planning to meet there:

Slimbuddha (Ron)
ntsaint (Andy)
bamabrock
Bloomer (John)
aaronrules

We will probably depart about 10:15. If you're close and want to try to reach someone on the radio, use CB Channel 13 or 146.460 on the Ham radio.

Just looking at my google maps. Is this intersection close to the Santa Ana golf club?

I just got 12.5 out of a tank running between 75 and 80. Not bad.

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD, and hopefully approved by the NSA.

I still don't trust your scan gauge. I don't get how you get significantly better mileage than everyone else on a regular basis. On all our trips you are 5-6+ mpg better than me.

I'm not using my scan gauge for this calculation on my trip. I'm using my Garmin gps to calculate the mileage and then dividing that by how many gallons were used to fill my tank. The secret is to go rackless! So far 3 full tanks of gas averaging between 15.5 -16. On one tank, I drove over 350 miles on 22 gallons! That was mainly flat terrain.

I only have the stock rack. But then again I am doing 80 or a little over the whole way. Plus full skids and front and rear bumper on top of being fully loaded! I way underestimated my gas usage.

Try keeping your speed <75mph for a tank and see what that does for your mileage.

Lookout we have arrived!!!! We're at Twin Peaks Lodge if anyone wants to look us up. Ran in to griffin while eating breakfast in Poncha Springs this morning. They headed out to a trail and we headed to Ouray indirectly on a trail ourselves. Marshall Pass was 30mi long, mostly easy forest service road with a few rough rocks that any pickup truck could do but it was a good one for the fam to acclimate with. Had some amazing views also.

I hope we don't run into a bunch of jeep guys while we are all taking poser pics!

My wife and I are planning to join the group on Saturday for the day. We will drive over from Durango Saturday morning...as long as you do not mind having an 80 along. As you are passing north of Durango I will try to hit you guys on 146.46. My house is 10 miles north of Durango on Hwy 550 about a mile past Trimble Lane so if anyone needs anything just give me a shout.

Do you have an idea what run you will be doing on Saturday?

And if anyone is running late and/or is burnt out on driving I have an extra bedroom.

consumer reports did some tests about racks and speed recently. There was a big effect of the roof rack of course and the speed effect was huge, something like 30% less mpg going from 55 to 75 for a sedan IIRC.

I'm sure they'll be taking poser pics too.

Yep, in rental jeeps at that. :D Ouray is slammed right now. I mean seething. Every hotel is no vacancy from my walk this evening. Mostly jeeps and motorcycles but definitely an above average amount of cruisers. Saw a couple 100's.

It is very close to that golf club, southwest of it. The main thing you would see from Hwy 550 is the Santa Ana Star Casino. Take the next left after you pass the casino and you're there.

I drive a stock white '99 with running boards and BFG ATs. Slimbuddha (Ron) has a black '99 with some lift, bumpers and sliders. 100s are not that common around here so I'm sure any one you see in the vicinity is probably part of the group.
