Just a heads up, these are on sale now while supplies last at your local Sears store http://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-ga...a=00915362000P&kpid=00915362000&mktRedirect=y I just bought mine the other night. The cool thing is its an actual oil lube compressor so not only should it last longer, its a lot more quite then the oil less type. I will do some long term testing on it in another post. For now I can say I was able to fill one of my 315's from 15psi to 35psi in 1 min 21 sec yesterday.

Be a little leery of this one. Even though it is a Craftsman, it does NOT carry their lifetime warranty. A friend of mine bought one and it lasted 30 MINUTES. He took it back, and they gave him another one. THAT one lasted two days of intermittent use. He took it back to the store and they gave him a third. The third one died in a few days. The store would not take the last one back (which he rose hell about) and he finally quit trying. I have the carcass in my garage to use as a spare air tank. The pump is junk.

I would suggest NOT buying it.

Sorry, it does LOOK like a good deal though.....

I just read the part of an oil lubed unit. Maybe the one my buddy had was the OIL-LESS unit. I don't know for sure. Carry on.

I hope it works for you!

Anyone own one of these, or a similar size, wondering what jobs could be done with it?

that's not a fantastic price for a 3 gallon wall-powered compressor. I paid $50 for 3gal oilless at sears a couple years ago, and it came with a brad nailer. wasn't craftsman branded, but had the same warranty as this one.

My impact wrenches like at least 6cfm at 90 psi. Just saying...

This is an OIL-LUBED unit, not oilless. My buddy bought this same compressor and he said it's been great for small projects. It goes on sale at this price several times throughout the year.

Very tempting but this is even more interesting, too bad it's not cheaper.

They had that one right next to the one I bought, they are almost the same size and you get a lot more power from the 3 gallon !

Big difference between oil less and an oil lube. Most everything I've looked at in this size is an oil less or really expensive for an oil lube.

Mine too, that's why I run them from my big compressor ;) I bought this for taking with me on trails and doing little carpentry jobs here and there. I'm not sure how it would work with the impact, I'm guessing some pretty short bursts from the 1/2" IR but I will test it out sometime and let everybody know. Actually last night I needed to air a tire at the end of my driveway, didn't feel like deploying my hose reel so I just took this thing out, set it next to the tire and voila !

Nice

What does it have for power leads?

It runs from 110. I haven't found the actual draw numbers but it says to run from a 15 amp breaker so by my calculations that makes it under 1800w ? Now I just need to get the inverter mounted in the back of the truck so I can make this thing really portable.

I have one. Good compressor to air up tires and inflatables and run brad nailers. It doesn't have the cfm for much else. I've had mine for a few years and still runs fine.

Would this have enough pressure/volume to use for spraying body panel rust proofing or undercoating?

Doubtful. What cfm does the spray gun say?

3.7 cfm @ 40psi and 2.4 @ 90psi are the numbers. I don't know what your spray gun draws, ifs its an hvlp you may be in business. The problem is even if it does meet the cfm requirements the tank capacity may not be able to keep up. The good news is it has a 50% duty cycle so you should be able to run the crap out of it.

OK, did my homework and checked for one gun used to spray body panel rustproofing; they recommended
  • Air consumption: 7 - 10 CFM
  • Working pressure: 40 - 60 PSI
One specific product (Waxoil) recommends 100psi for fogging inside cavities and 60psi for surface application. So I guess this little buggar won't work for that project but I can see where the small size could come in handy

You're probably going to need a 60 gallon dual stage at least. The one at Harbor Freight is actually a rebranded Bellair for $400 less if you're looking for value.
