How much work am I looking at? I have seen the SBC swaps, and the Yota V8 swaps, but can't seem to find a 1FZ-FE swap that answers my questions.
I have a chance to buy a complete running engine w/ harness and ecu.
I know the question will be asked so.....I killed my 3FE. Had a semi-emergency situation, and my 80 with a busted rad. was my only mode of transportation. Needless to say, its not longer with us.

So, am I looking at an inordinate amount of work? Should I just rebuild what I have? The 1FZ is under $500 if that makes it a huge difference.

Thanks in advance.

Or spend the big bux and do a 2uz swap. Then everyone will be jealous.

I would just find another 3fe and throw it in. 1fzfe conversion would be very, very difficult.
What exactly would be the difficult part? The ecu and harness come with the engine? I have built numerous custom vehicles/crawlers, so fabbing mounts and the like are no brainers. I just wanna make sure I wouldn't have to swap the whole drivetrain/fuel system out. If I could drop in the complete engine and wiring without too much hassle, I'm good. If I have to swap tons of other parts, I don't see a benefit, and would likely go with a 2FE build instead. I definitely need the extra power for the type of driving I do.

The ECU is only one of many computer controlled systems on the 93-97 fzj80s.

The A440F tranny from the 3FE won't bolt up to the 1fz-fe...so you'd have to swap the A442F or A343F tranny and all it's electronics over as well.

Don't know about the TC and driveshafts at that point.

It would literally be cheaper to buy a 1993-1997 fzj80 in decent shape then to swap in a 1fz-fe. Plus there are other benefits to an fzj...full float rear, discs all around. The option for factory lockers...

JUst seems like a lot of effort and expense without the full benefits of either.

I believe the drive shafts are longer in the 3fe than the 1fz.

If your getting the motor, ecu, wiring harness, drive shafts, & trans/t-case I'd say go for it. That's pretty much what's it going to take to complete your swap.

Exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks a ton. Now I have to make some more decisions. I live in a VERY hilly area, and the 3FE just doesn't cut the mustard. Driving around with my foot on the floor and only going 35mph is stretching my sanity.

Any recommendations? Seems like forced induction and vortec swap are likely my best bet.

430 is a TAD more than I'm looking for, but I LOVE the enthusiasm:grinpimp:

I pulled the 1FZ from my '97 because it was not strong enough on the hills. I don't think the 1FZ (without a supercharger) is going to satisfy you, so you may want to consider Cummins, Vortec 5.3, or similar, especially if you have skillz! Another option would be to regear, but that has it's own limitations as well.

I'm literally 1 step from buying a new kid hauler and going full retard on the fj

Agreed, the 1fz is not worth the effort. Put something fun in it!!

hahahha

Now I get it......duh

Kid Hauler=Alternate vehicle
Full retard on fj=doing what you want to the fj80

I totally read that wrong and thought you were looking into an fjc as a kid hauler.

well, i'm officially on the lookout for a 92+ sbc
