Okay I'll grab a couple pics. The FPR is located at the front of the fuel rail, between the air injection rail, and the intake manifold runners. I believe it is connected to the rear-most of the 3 VSVs on the fender.

You've got the positions right, I was only bringing up the FPR due to the issue with disconnecting it from vacuum with the desmog. If you have it hooked to vacuum, or the VSV for it still hooked up, I doubt this is the cause of your wavy idle.

How much does it waver anyway? Is it close to dying? or just a touch unsteady? Does it seem like a miss, or a slower waver than that?

Might not hurt to check for a vacuum leak. Get a spray bottle and spray water all around the intake setup and anything you touched with the desmog.

The only idle issue I've had went away when I checked the throttle position sensor. I chocked it up to a loose/dirty connection. Couldn't hurt to double check TPS and AFM with a multimeter, and make sure the connectors look good. (I've heard of the AFM connector being F'ed up by disconnecting it wrong)
I am with you on all counts.

Sounds like TPS but the plug on the MAF has been known to get fubared. I would check for codes.

Just pulling the fuse should do it. So have you disconnected the 3 VSVs on the fender? One of them is for the fuel pressure regulator, and should either be kept, or else the line from it to the FPR hooked up to a constant vacuum (I'll see if I can find the thread on that).
I had my fuel pressure reg on constant vacuum after de-smog.

More times than one I would do a little project on a 62 and after it would miss like crazy.Sometimes in the general area that I worked on a wire or old hose that I brushed or bumped would come loose just enough to screw things up.....look real close

Your intake could be dirty as hell also. When you pull that egr pull the intake and clean the hell out of the inside.....it is easy now that you have it de-smogged. I cannot tell you how many time I have worked on a 62 and seen how much carbon and gunk was inside.

i pulled the fuse last night, and for some reaason, this morning, i walked out and started it up, no problem what so ever, this dang thing is driving me crazy. it seems as though with every new day, something is wrong, and on the next, it magically fixes itself

Damn, it sucks when the fix is easy :flipoff2:

Let us know if it pops back up.

That is excellent

it will eventually, probably once i take the air injectors and EGR off, something will go wrong, as usual, damn 62!, but i love her anyways

ok, so the problem is not as bad now, but my idle is really low, and the other night i was up in the mountain, the truck was warm after about a 50 mile drive, and i stalled out in reverse. it throbbs a little, i really need to know what the deal is, is because i havent taken the EGR off yet. that it is messing with the idle speed. thanks

Did you ever extract the codes? That is real important.

51, throttle position sensor might have to be re calibrated? who knows, ive had this code since i bought the truck last year, i checked to see if another came up behind, and same (51) arose

Just as we thought.

FIRST if you do not have one get a FSM....cannot remember if you said you had on or not.

Then find the section about TPS and make sure you have a volt meter...then adjust and if its still off replace it as you well know.

so y'all deffinitely think it is the TPS. youre right, i dont have an FSM. ill look into getting one for sure. however for the time being, since this is my DD, is there a possibility i can get the page in adobe from one or someone here? need it soon!!! well, not really, ill be gone until monday.

I know rockdoc can get what you need. I sold my FSM for the 62. If he does not come around I still have mty Lcheapo laying around. Those springs get weak in the TPS and they are known to get dirty however when the springs gets weak its best just to replace it. Yes with all the syomtoms and you pulling the code it sure seems like it. But be sure to check the wiring. of course before you run out and buy another from the local parts store try to see if its set correctly.
