I love all these pictures. When your all finished up and have the vacuum hoses figured out you should replace all the vacuum lines on mine lol
Another thought. - with all this removed will you desmog? Sure opens up the engine bay

Thanks man, I appreciate the support. I wasn't sure if I was gonna get some grump that didn't like the photos without steps.

I'll definitely document what I find with the vacuum lines, as I'm sure I'll need help -we'll compare notes! :D

There should be a vacuum hose diagram on the inside of the hood.
There is also a few good ones in the FSM:

Looks like you're probably right about lines not supposed to be crossed over and needing new ones!

Picking up where I left off:

I put way too much assembly lube around the perimeter of the pistons, to seal out any crap from the rings while I have it open:

After scraping off the gasket with only one hand (have YOU ever reached cylinder 6 without standing on the driver-side tire?)

Incidentally, I decided to try filling a few of the coolant passages with the stiffest assembly lube I could find -to keep crap from falling in while I clean up carbon, etc. It's still there, hasn't gone too far since putting it in on Saturday.

I'm not entirely sure what to do to fill the larger holes, but maybe masking tape will stick to the underside or something.
 
This thread (Ishino Gasket Kits) mentions the Ishino Stone company being an OEM for Toyota, and I believe it now.

Top (Head) -at least, how the guy before me put it on- side of the gasket:

The new toyota one is clearly a different revision than the one my truck's PO got in the partsgeek kit.
Note the sealant stripe along the far edge, the single-piece fire ring assembly, and the different coolant passage holes.

So I've been struggling with something about this.

I'm not quite sure I had it right, about the head gasket being the issue.

Yes, it's _an_ issue, but there's no smoking gun as to the direct cause of coolant in the oil.

I'm worried it's actually a cracked head, as I'm seeing NOTHING in the gasket surface to explain how a half a gallon of coolant got into the oil, in 30 mins of driving.

Please don't be the block... I'll check the head closely tomorrow.

Any input on head coolant -> oil issues would be very welcome, but the only possible path I see is through a hole in cast iron.
