I've seen many versions of the cone filter for the 3fe swap, has anyone ever successfully transplanted the 62 air cleaner into the 40 for the 3fe? I have to move the battery tray anyway so I thought I wouldld give it a try. Looking for ideas for my install.

I take it you have a heater blower? I was looking at a 3fe few days ago looks like with some rerouting the air cleaner can be moved to the back of the fender area. Or relocate the battery tray to the firewall where the heater blower goes like on a jeep.
Haven't tackled this issue yet but plan to this winter.. I won't have the heater blower to contend with tho.

I'm sure it could be done, most of us were trying to keep the stock battery tray. I believe the stock intake hose would be too long, you could improvise with silicone to the canister though. Pic of my intake fittings, the only difference would be the MAF bolted to the canister:

Good luck!

TTT.. Anyone have a good spot for this yet? I'm hoping to cut the brackets off one this weekend and see where it might go in the engine bay. it's getting tight in there tho with the AC compressor and battery, ignitor, fuel filter etc.. Any ideas appreciated..

Look at a B series engine equipped 40. They used a similar air cleaner housing. I suspect the same filter element.

From the pictures I've seen the battery is higher, further forward on them and the canister sits behind, probably tight against the blower housing.

I have a generic stainless battery tray in my 40, I think form Summit as I recall. We had to open a hole or two, but it bolted to the stock battery base/bracket. The tray itself is very stout. I think with another leg/bracket that goes down to the frame near the grill area and a riser off the orginal bracket the battery could be moved with the use of a new tray, or even the stock one for that matter. I bet the air cleaner would about sit on the rear portion of the orginal bracket then.

Dislaimer, I've never tried this, just thinking out loud here.

Thanks for the lead, looks like it mounts off the drivers side fender and the battery is on the pass side (RHD truck).

I saw some pictures of 3B's that must have been 24 volt with two batteries one on each side. They looked like the picture above with the battery forward and high.

Good gosh that is a packed engine compartment. I guess i'd better take a look at moving the battery tray then. Seems the only logical way to get it all to fit. I"m not sure i want to make it all fit but it would be nice to have OEM filter etc in there. Where is the radiator overflow in that engine bay? or the Washer squirter?
