just put a 92 into my 88..here goes...the thermostat housing has different plugs on its senders; use your old one...the passenger side accessory brackets do not mix or cross swap; use your old ac mount, comp, ps mount and pump...a couple other minor differences as well. I think the 80 series injectors flow more go juice than the 62 series injectors, so you may want to swap out fuel metering stuff as well. the dizzy has a different connector on it as well...I have a thread in here somewhere that tried to cover all of these differences...,
https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj80-v-fj62-injector-connectors-engine-harness-differences.812590/
and yeah, the flywheel/flexplate bolts for the crank are larger on the fj80 than the fj62; you'll need to source the fj62 flexplate and bolts. I believe the motor mounts are different as well- might just be the passenger side...hth
Thanks for the help. Some responses to some of the things you brought up:
- Thermostat housing: Was not tracking this at all. Is this something I can swap over from my current 3FE? The entire housing?
- Injectors will be rebuilt from my current 3FE already in the 80 since this is just a short block I'll be getting. Head will be rebuilt from my current 3FE as well. Shouldn't need to worry about anything as far as fuel management (this short block is also bored .020 as well)
- Dizzy carried over from 3FE already in the 80. Same exact dizzy from everything I've read.
- Flex Plate/Bolts: I've read that there was an early and late flex plate. Motor was (assuming) rebuilt from the 1990 FJ62 it came out of. The part numbers for the flex plate match for both 1990 and 1992 model years. Guess the switch was due to a larger pilot crank (I've been up all night, so I don't think thats the right term....) in the later blocks. Mine SHOULD bolt up from the 80, but we will see if that holds true.
As for the motor mounts, are they different as in different part numbers, or different on the block themselves? Assuming different part numbers since the frames are different, but the mounts on the block themselves are identical. Once again, I can swap this over if need be from the motor already in my 80.
What do you mean regarding the passenger side accessory brackets do not mix or cross swap? The mounts will not work from the motor already in the 80? or I cannot mix and match the mounts from both series? I've seen two different diagrams for belt routing on FJ62 3FEs. One had a single Idler pulley, the other had 2. My 80 has two, (and hoping to keep that since I have new belts that account for the desmog). If you can expand on that a bit more, I'd greatly appreciate it!
I've been up all night researching this goodness since I've been on 24 hr duty. I'm feeling pretty confident in going this route, and realize I might run into just a few snags.
And if there's anything that sounds hazy on here, I've been up far too long! Feel free to correct me!
I appreciate all the help! Feel free to add more!
