This one was a pain in the ass to discover with my newly rebuilt engine hanging from the hoist about to go in the truck :bang:

Those non-typical 11mm diameter bolts are hard to tell from the 10mm versions at first glance, even after having handled and sorted through hundreds of pounds of Land Cruiser and 4-Runner hardware over the past 30+ years. I still can't believe how many nuts, bolts, and washers I still have laying around. Some day I need to do some serious sorting (and tossing).

These are the proper flywheel bolts you need if you are doing a manual transmission conversion on a post 10/89 FJ62.

Hi all, bumping an old thread. I have a question on wiring differences. As stated, I know some connectors are different, but is the overall wiring largely the same? I ask because I am putting a 3FE from a 1992 into my FJ40 (78), but most documentation out there where folks have done this are from an 88 or 89 FJ62 (including me having done that once).

So for example, I have the engine side harness from the 1992 that came with the engine, but not the cowl harness. If I remember correctly, the ECU connectors on the earlier model 3FEs were - 2 connectors on the engine harness and one from the cowl harness. But on my FJ80 engine harness, it has all 3 ECU connectors. So when I did my swap with an 88 3FE, I had to take several wiring and connections from the cowl harness, including that one ECU connector.

I guess ultimately I am asking (still in planning phase), will I need the cowl harness from a later model FJ80 to fully wire things? Or do I have all the wiring I need with the 3FE engine harness (and my current FJ40 cowl harness)? I know I can start tearing into it and see exactly what wires I have, but just trying to know if I need to source the rest of the wiring (cowl side harness).

Hope that makes sense...

thanks,
Curtice
