what's needed to do this?

Agreed...why the big block? Unless you're building a mud bogger...

In this forum, most conversions are from gas to diesel, not the other way 'round, so I'm not sure you'll get many responses here. A search from the main forum index might help you find some stuff.

Cheers,
Robin

look closer! the pic ,to my best judgement is a 3b diesel mated to a sm 465 granny tranny with a np 208 t-case ! how is this possible?asked here last year for very same set-up and was told it was impossible. what are you referring to as a big block? 3b diesel is a 3.4l 4cyl.isn't it ? diesel forum and a diesel can't be reconized in a picture ... what gives?

this is a 3b diesel in a jeep mated to a bull-low chevy 4spd and then coupled to a clocked np208 t-case ! question is what bellhousing is this and how was it mated to the 3b diesel engine ? anyone know? why would that picture of the engine ever be perceived as a big block anything ? going from gas to diesel is exactly what I did.:bounce:

heh, yeah man, put the glasses on before you post :grinpimp:

I think that'd be pretty cool, be able to get away from @&@&@&@&ty trannies like the h55f and still have a granny gear.

I heard noises about someone messing around trying to mate a 3b to a sm420 but I'm not sure he ever got around to it or made it work.

cheers,
ryan

Oops my bad...obviously it was a diesel but I thought it was coming out of your truck with a big a$$ chev going in.

I'm a noob. And obviously I know jack s--t about chevy. Which is okay by me, but not helpful in this situation.

I'll be quiet now.:o

did the pic show up different or was I originally mistaken? why were they thinking big block?

Somebody read "SM465" as "454" :D

I would think you'd need a custom bellhousing since the input on the 465 would be long enough to be used with a 3B bell. Or maybe a custom spud shaft adapter with the 10 spline female end and 21 spline male end?

Just simple confusion from the post. It sounds like changing over to a 465 ci 4sp..............

post up some more pictures, is there any adpaterplates in there?

proof it works ! I guess. no criticism for not being in an LC please. awesome little engines ...ready for a turbo now.
new jeep 025 (600 x 450).webp

Looks like a regular "B" series bellhousing to me. Why not just use an H41 low range 4 speed? Same 1st gear as in the H55F but without the perceived weakness of the overdrive. It's a non-USA tranny.

well that seems like the way to improve a jeep.

can't be legal tho, your engine is older than the truck. ??? is that a concern in Ontario?

because I needed something more common and without all the t-case adapters ! also the chevy dana 60's frt and rear req'd the 208 or a 205 to be behind the tranny ! didn't want offset 60 rear , not common when you bust rear axle in the bush . Plus 6.55:1 to modified 3.2:1 to 5.86:1 equals crawling . and yes to the others , 3b definately improves a jeep. best mod ever .

...unless he was referring to the high price that H55-F's seem to fetch...

all i know is that the H55F has been a good tranny for me and the only sm420 i ever drove shifted rough, was noisy and just a unpleasent drive all around...

each to their own but i don't think i would call a H55F a POS...
cheers
