I was wondering what size exhaust you would recommend on my 3B. Right now i believe it is 2" but the way the exhaust is ran it bends twenty times before making it out the back. Wouldn't this be robbing me of power?

It's less than 2" if it's OEM. Recommended size varies with whether you're turbo'd or not. I am turbo'd and run 2 1/2" without any muffler. I'll probably go 3" when I need to replace.

Cruiser... who built your exhaust for ya, and what did it cost? Im thinking of going 21/2 or 3' pipe with flowmaster down the road?

I got mine done, 3 inch pipe at same place as cruiser guy, believe it was midas in surrey. It was under 200 bucks.
If anyone wants a stock exhaust setup for a 60 i have it all, the muffler is good and the other two pipes are only 2 yrs old.

I run 2.5 with a glass pack out the side of a 60, a small improvement on performance, but noting to write home about, aint no turbo.

Like jzilla said, Midas.
If you're turbo'd forget a muffler. It's not necessary for noise control and it'll only rob you of power and $$. I've run without a muffler for several years and even when talking to cops or going through AirCare (smog check) I've never been questioned on the noise.

morning,
if you like a bit of a roar then go without a turbo, for me i like the truck quiet so i run a STEEL muffler with a 2 1/2 exhaust this is on either a NA diesel or a turbo'd model. if you live in "rust" country then spend the extra for aluminized tubing. the first one we had done 14 years ago is still running around without having to be replace.
with this one either the 1HZ or the 3B teh turbo spools nicely and the price is much cheaper than mandrel bent exhaust.
cheers

The wife definately likes it on the quieter side, so i would be somewhat hesitant to run without a muffler... there has to be some good free flowing alternatives out there? I would think a 3 inch pipe and a flowmaster muffler would offer minimal, if any resistance... no? I have read that a good exhaust does make quite a difference with a turbo motor...

Steel pipes... do you mean the stuff you pick up off the shelf at the auto parts store and build yourself?

Do you need any mods to the manifold to accomidate a larger exhaust?

Is this for the BJ60 or the HJ61? My BJ60 is slightly noisier that stock, most pronounced when you're behind it while idling (sounds like a diesel inboard on a boat) or when driving next to a divider with the windows down. In normal driving it's hardly noticable in my opinion. I was initially hesitant to run without a muffler but at others encouragement I decided to give it a try, now I wouldn't go back to a muffler.
Have a listen to trucks without a muffler before you decide. You might be surprised.

its a 82 bj60 w/ a stock 3b and a 4 speed. it has a muffler now but has a leak and the exhaust isn't very free flowing due to the twenty bends it takes from front to back. i thought i would go with a bigger dia. and try to run it as straight as possible

Stock 3B needs a muffler, you'd get pulled over without one. I doubt you'll see any amazing performance gains with a larger pipe on a stock 3B.

Turbo'd engines don't need a muffler in my opinion.

70's guy

I ran a while with no muffler with a right side exit in front of rear wheel. Works well BUT it towing with the window down it gets old fast.
I now use a Minneapolis Moline 2 ,1/2" tractor muffler, works great with just enough to take edge off but not effect spool up or EGT.
