37" Tire Poll

First of all: Thank you to all the members of IH8MUD! The amount of information here is priceless! My 40 is soon to be my daily driver and I need some input on tire selection. I'm going to be running 37x12.50x17's on a 10" wheel but can't decide between:
-BFG M/T KM2,
-Mickey Baja MTZ,
-Goodyear MTR's,
-Pro Comp XMT's.
Like I said the rig will be seeing daily highway miles so noise and wear are a concern. I see a lot of snow and ice in the winter so I'm leaning towards treads with more siping. This rig also plays on the Rubicon in the summer time. From your expirence, what would you go with?

I picked out the Important parts! MTR's is my vote!

Not the Greatest on Snow, but you could have them Siped!

You don't have these on your list, but I'm really happy with Nitto Mud Grapplers. I have 35x12.50x16's on my DD Dodge 2500 and love them. We just had a rare snow and ice event, and they performed extremely well. The siping really helps. I got them because my son put 33x13.50x15 on his '83 mini truck and I liked them so much when I drove it. They are as loud or louder than a BFG M/T for road noise, though. I have about 25-30,000 on them and they are wearing very well.

I'm now running Krawler T/As. 37X17X12.5 on an 8" wheel. BAD ass.

Go with the BFGs. All of them will be loud. Deal with it.

MTR's are my vote they ware good on the road and the road noise is't bad. not to mention not a bad alterrain tire

I have been running Toyo Open Country 37x14.5x17 on my LC for a few years now. This was my daily driver until gas broke $3 a gallon, had to buy a small gas efficient car for my daily driver.

But the Toyos balance nicely, run smooth as glass on the freeway, quiet comfortable ride.

Any input on the KM2 Vs the old BFG MT on road noise? I know all of these are noisy but my BFG MT's I run now are a hell of a lot quieter than the radial swampers I had before that. Those new Goodyears look pretty bad-ass. What do you guys think about an 8" vs 10" rim with a 12.5" tire? I have bead locks so bead protection isn't an issue here.

After some more research I think it's down to the KM2's and the new MTR's w/ Kevlar. Looks like Goodyear is doing a $50 rebate right now. Always been happy with BFG's, sort of feel guilty looking at the Goodyears

I'm stoked with my 35" mtr's. There a good all around tire. I think you wouldn't go wrong the either the mtr or km2. I'm not sure on the wear of the km2's. Good luck and let us know which you pick and keep us updated!

I've been switching between 37X12.5X15 MTRs and 37X12.5X17 KM2s (both are center siped), because of issues with the weld in beadlocks the MTRs are on. The KM2s will be on my '85 mini truck when it's done, but for now, I'm using both sets on my 40. I have to say that both do very well in the snow, much better than my 36X12.5X15 TSL/SXs. In the really deep snow, the SXs just dig too fast and even though I've aired down to 1 psi with them (with Staun internal beadlocks), they didn't flex very much, so the footprint didn't grow. When I switched to the MTRs or the KM2s, the footprint is huge when aired down and keeps my 40 on top. I can't say that I have any complaints with either the KM2s or the MTRs so far. I don't DD my 40 very often anymore, but when when on the highway, both are comparable in road noise. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not as hardcore as a lot of folks here, but I don't baby my stuff either.

35's Not too big. Quiet, and smooth smooth smooth...

I run 35 boggers, very "interesting" road manners. Why not consider the interco truxus mt. Here in Lebanon 70% of our wheeling is on snow, the truxus are amazing on the white stuff, great siping, good road manners, and not too bad when it comes to road noise. I have no idea about the tread wear but a friend of mine has a set of 35 truxus mt's on his range rover and this is his second year of wheeling with them. The toyos seem like a good choice, but for a mixture of daily driving and snow wheeling, personally, I feel like the truxus mt's are the best choice.

The BFG or MTR is a great choice. The Nittos are good too. I really dont think with a MT that road noise will be that big of a problem in a 40.
