I am starting the build up of a 350. Motor is out of a 98 Z71 PU 30K on motor, multiport injection. We are getting the motor and all asst crap. Motor will be torn down and rebuilt.

Motor is for a 62. He wants to tow a "big" boat, some easy off roading and long distance trips. He wants power( :D) reliability and Ok gas milage.

Money is not that big of an issue within reason. We dont want a hot rod but dont want a stock motor either.

I was thinking:
roller rockers
mild RV cam
good intake
hi flow injectors
solid lifters
hi end dist
hi flow WP
programmable computer

What other suggesstions do you all have? I am far from a 350 performance expert :D

Pulling a "big" boat behind a 62 sounds like a recipe for disaster. How large are we talking here?

Skip the solid lifters. Good for circle track but not for the road when RPM's don't call for it. Roller rockers are fine but for reliability don't use aluminum. For an RV cam the stock fuel injectors will do fine once reprogrammed. They should be good up to about 350 HP.

What heads are on the engine ... that's where all the HP is made.

383 stroker.

I'd be more worried about keeping the engine (350) as stock as possible unless you plan on doing other drive train upgrades. I'm not trying to kill the mood here, but a stock 350 will pull a big boat, but will the other stuff hang in there for very long? Who knows. I can tell you this, a built 350 with stock everything else is fruitless. You're opening the wrong can, especially if the application is for towing, etc...

30k leave it alone. RV cam good for mid range power and some fuel, other then that most are a huge dog off the line, not worth it in my opinion.

BUY A BUILT CRATE for more power and $$$.

maybe very doubtful, but maybe, do a few things metioned but leave long block alone period.

I'm also wondering why you're going to tear down a block with only 30k on it??

Yea it should be a 5.7 Vortec. Don't tear it down unless you have to and keep it stock. The EFI will be great for drivability. Just change Exhaust, Air Intake (not manifold), and computer program if you want more power. It would be a shame to carb that motor.

Good ideas. The reason for the overhaul is that it is not currently running and I have not heard it run nor know any of the history of it. Not palnning a rebuild just a tear down, new bearings/rings and hone the cylinders polish the crank. I need to warrent the motor so I need to tear it down. if it was for me I would use it as is.

Hoping for around 325 HP staying mostly stock but using hi end aftm stock repalcement parts

Just don't use the s***ty 4l60 auto that comes behind it.
Every suburban we've had (3) has had to have at least two...
Overheated and blew out one in a 5.7'd Tahoe last weekend towing a measly 4k.
