I'm almost in the final stages of having my 60 ready for a 2200 mile trip from Kansas City - Colorado - Kansas City, going over 8 passes and camping along the way. Although I've done this on my KLR, this is a first for my 60.

I'm curious, it doesn't look like I'll have enough time to run a second battery for my Engel 45 fridge, so I'm curious about running my battery down over night with it running....any advice?

Second, I'm running a 60 in hi-lift on the upper tabs on my ARB bumper and was curious if anyone runs one this way and if you've had any structural problems with the tabs.....

Thanks....I'll post pics when done, but here's the current state of the rhinoride but now it has the roof rack and RRT...

Nice 60 BTW. Nice to see another cruiser from KC.

Cheers

Excellent!!

Ya, there is a couple of use north of the river....as a matter of fact Exrsa1 is going to help me install a H55 before my trip....nothing like waiting to the last minute I say....

For your fridge, you can add a low voltage cut-off switch. At a predetermined voltage, 11.2 Volts or so, it'll disconnect your fridge. Or you can get one of those portable power packs.

Assuming that you have a newer battery in your rig thats in reasonably good condition, I wouldnt worry too much about the fridge killing the battery overnight, as long as you "top it off" again the next day by driving or running the motor.

My Engel MT60 only discharges a standard 27-series battery around .4 - .6 volts over a 24-36 hour period ( @ 78 degrees ambient). At that rate, there should be more than enough energy left in your main battery for starting the engine.

If you would rather be safe than sorry, simply bring along one of those handy SAMS/COSTCO portable jump starters as a back-up.

I`ve had a Hi-Lift munted to the upper tabs of my ARB for some time now. The only (negative) thing I noticed was a little bit of visible vibration on the upper tube at certain speeds ( maybe the added weight of the Hi-Lift transfered/magnified some tire vibrations to the upper bar ? )

Have a great trip !

Thanks! You have calmed my concerns!

Good looking 60! Is there anyway to avoid installing a roof rack for this long trip? It sure would help out the mileage!

Best of luck on your trip.

I second no problemos running your fridge off a single battery, if you run the truck for at least 30-45 minutes per day. I had my Engel 35L hooked to a single cheapo battery in the Arizona desert last fall and never had any issues with starting the truck...even with ambient temps in the 90s+

Thanks!

I'm not to worried about gas mileage...it'll most likely be worst when I put the roof top tent on it....

I appreciate the feed back.

Thanks!!!! I love hearing from people with experience...it really answers my question!

BTW- You run my dream bike....right now I'm still traveling on my trustly KLR with over 16K on it. I liken it to a Toyota...it just keeps slogging away and chugs up every mountain I point it at.

Take care!
