I'm not sure if any of the 40 series (45's-47's) ever came with the larger 3 inch drums so apologies if this is not the correct forum to post this question.

I'm wondering if there was a 3 inch drum specific backing plate? I've got a set of 3 inch drums that I wanted to install on a 70 series drum rear axle assembly with relocted saddles per 40 series width, but I'm finding that the drums seem to rub on the backing plates?

Can't answer your question but some '45 came with the wider drums, I would guess later models, HJ's etc did as well but I don't think the FJ40 ever did.

Someone might know the answer though.

I dug out the brand new brake shoes that go with the drums and they look to be a completely different breed all together. The way the shoes line up inside the drum they seem to be full float specific, either front or rear. There is quite a bit of space inside of them as oppose to the shoes that go with the original semi-floating setup. I'm almost certain that the 3" shoes require dual cylinders also which is a big red flag for me. anyone need some brand new 3" drums and shoes:rolleyes:.
