A HUGE thanks to Tare and Braden for their help Friday evening on our way to Sheep Canyon.

Braden, Stan and I are headed out the 76 to Anza and had just passed Pala Resort and headed up the hill and my check engine light comes on. Damn! What could it be? We decide to keep on going. Braden puts a call into Tare. I have OBD I so a simple paper clip diagnostic tool will do. I could only remember the TE1 side to jump with the paper clip. Tare confirms the other side E1 and before he heads out to dinner sends a link with all the trouble code info for Braden to open on his IPhone when we hit Anza. We hit the XL Gas station and I pull a code 28 with the best diagnostic tool an older 80 series can have - a paper clip. Braden on his IPhone pulls down the link Tare sent and we find the code. Fortunately it's only the O2 sensors (again - I think this is set 3 I've gone thru). We complete the weekend with the check engine light on and off intermitently.

Tare - again, Huge thanks for your help Friday evening!!! Truely a great help with the info you sent and to Braden for having the technology to pull down the info so quickly!! What a community of help when in need.

Oh my god you are anal! Dude, check engline light goes on, just keep the right foot down! You know damn well its a smog issue every time!! LOL!

Anyways, thanks to technology i guess.... iphone, all that junk.. you found out what it was real fast. Glad it wasn't anything too major. Although.. .sucks it was the 02 sensors.. lemme know what you pay... i may be in the same boat soon.

I've got a call into the man right now. I fry these damn O2 sensors about every 60K.

Anal - hell no! Last thing I wanted to do was head up Coyote Canyon and either have the truck die half way up the rock gardens or not have the truck start Saturday morning up at Sheep Canyon. Very huge $$$ to recover the truck from up there.

CB conversation with Stan and Braden, I'd guessed it was probably the O2 sensors before we even pulled the codes! I did have the truck die on me once taking it BACK to MacPherson Toyota a LONG time ago. They'd claimed to have fixed the O2 sensors and the check engine light came back on. Wife and I were taking it back up there and she died on the freeway at La Paz. Bastids at MacPherson had just cut the harness to the sensors. Discovered that when I got fed up the them and took the truck to Family Toyota when the light came on a third time. Never did go back to MacPherson again. Now given that history, you still think I'm anal? :D

Naah, but it was fun to call you that. Given YOUR history wrenching in your driveway. Always safe than sorry. That's the kind of people i like to wheel with actually. Not the opposite, where their junk may break down at any given moment. Yeah post up when you find out the price on those puppies. The 80 needs to get smogged this coming month :(

Your wife or the truck?! :flipoff2:

Glad it wasn't anything worse to ruin your wheeling.

LOL! At the time, she was driving the truck!

I keep getting an intermittent O2 sensor code. Dave if you need to you might try disconnecting your battery overnight. After I replaced my radiator the code did not come back for some time. During this time I took it to get smogged, so I am clean for another year.

Brent happy to help out, sounds like you guys had a blast.

It was a good trip Tare. Your help really put my mind at ease for the weekend and I appreciate it. Had I not been able to determine what it was, I was headed back home that night via the 78 (traveled road). Your help allowed me to stay and wheel for the first time since SnT last November!

I think it only came up with that code because there is no code for. "Whoah, what's that under my tires? Dirt? Dirt! " *Activate Engine Light*

ROTFLMAO! True statement if I ever heard one!! :D I think she was so excited to actually be out on a trip that she shiat herself and threw the code. That or showing her displeasure at me for not taking her out more often!

Yeah, I bet those golf clubs were a little noisy on the trail! :flipoff2:

They do tend to rattle around and somewhat difficult to strap down too! :flipoff2:
