I am in Charlotte NC and I want to switch from 4.11 to 3.73. My guess is that I have coarse splines.

Thanks, John

You don't need to worry about the pinion splines. The only thing you need to worry about is the pattern on the pinion flange and you can offset them and redrill if necessary or buy multi-pattern pinion flanges. Your best bet is to find a complete set of diffs out of a FJ60.

Thanks Eric for the info, I was confusing pinion splines and axle splines. Do I need to look for a certain 60 year range, or will my axles fit all years?

Thanks, John

Your axles are 30 spline. I can't remember when the axles went to 30 spline (in the 60s) and it stayed that way up until 1998. So any 60 series would work. 62s and 80 rears would be 4.10/4.11s so you don't want them.

i have a set of fine spline pinion 3.70's from a fj60 with new pinion bearings, solid pinion spacer from just differentials and marlin heavy duty pinion seal. And most importantly a multi drilled pinion flange from cruiser outfitter. (will fit fj40 drive shafts) thirds are shiny por15 black. $450 for the set.

No, and according to undocumented information that I have, approx. 53,000 on drive line.
