Cost

Regarding cost - I dont think it would that bad. You can find takeouts with low miles for less than $1,500, which includes tranny and transfer. You would have to center the rear axle (or not depending on DS length and angles), but besides that, and wiring, it would be similiar to any V8/xx tranny.

I dont think the wiring would be all that bad, not any worse than a vortec. The pirate4x4 guys do it all the time - you saying those guys are smarter than us over here?

My 'benchwrenching' opinion...not worth much I realize.

alright so i was on the road from 630 am to 530pm lookin around at cruisers. My head hurts a lot from thinkin to much i almost cried a few times walkin away from some very well priced rigs. As a land cruiser noob, and a horrible searcher, will an auto trans from a fj62 bolt up to a 1f engine. I am aware of the longer length. just talkin bellhousing and shaft not trans mount. thanks to all for all input greatly appreciated. and yes i am a very confused person that can never make up my mind. (easily 5-10 minutes lookin at menu for fast food)

Are you giving up on the 3.4?
I woud say 2F, but don't want to read 2 more pages.

I'm not getting involved in the SBC vs Toy V6 swap debate; my personal opinion is whatever makes you happy, hence the forged 462 stroker poncho for me :). It'd be worth searching the guys that did manual swaps in their 62s to see what bellhousing they used, if it's a 2F bellhousing then the pattern would be the same since if I remember right the 2F and 1F shared patterns (some verification on this would be appreciated). Might not be worth all the work to have still have a 1F, maybe do the motor and transmission from the 62?

one cruiser i am interested in has a built 1f. It goes great. which is why i want to find out if auto will bolt up to it.

I think one of the issue that you will have with the Toyota auto is lengths in a 40.

People swap 3fe's into 40's so I suspect it's possible. I think Jim at Downey actually swapped a 700r4 behind a cruiser motor, but in an FJ45. Length would be an obstacle, but maybe flipping the rear springs for a little extra wheelbase might be enough. I also recall reading that the flywheel bolts are bigger for a 3FE. So you might need a good machinist to make the flexplate work. I don't want to read through this whole thing again but why does it have to be an automatic?

has to be auto because of bad knee. To young for replacement and no health insurance. which is why this whole thing is such a pain

thanks

thanks for the link. so for sure it will bolt up (to bellhousing) as long as i get fj62 flexplate.

I can relate to that. I have one that will need replacement eventually too, but at 36 they don't want to touch it. Most of the time i'm fine but occasionally I practically fall down for several days in a row due to the pain. Thankfully it's my right knee so I can still work a clutch no problem. Like I mentioned earlier I would check on the size of the bolts that hold the flexplate to the crank. I think they are smaller on a 2F than on a 3FE so there might be some machining needed to make it work.
