I have the engine and chopped harness. Are there any web pages with detailed swap info and pics. This will be going into an FJ 40. Im hoping to use a manual transmission.

Sorry I don't have any info for you, but if you find a good detailed write-up send it my way ;-)

CAJUNFJ40,
I'm doing a UZ install on my 1962 FJ40 (slowly when I have the time) and can give you some pointers on what wire harness, bellhousing, ecu ect to use...

Hey guys I have been wanting to do a 1uz swap with my 73 Fj40 for about two years now and after poking around on this forum and lextreme.com I think I have taken in enough info to get off my ass and start this build. My plan of attack is also including a manual trans and the only way to make this work, that I can gather, is to go with an aftermarket ecu or if you can get your hands on a Crown ecu (good luck) you could wire it up your self. For me I like the aftermarket route becuase I may be putting on a supercharger later on down the road and that would make it easier to tune. As for the bellhousing, there are a couple companies down under (Dellows, Castlemaine rod shop) that make the bellhousing and clutch parts to swap these motors to a number of transsmisions. If you could get your hands on a R151 from a turbo pickup that would be ideal. Hope this enough info to get you started. Oh and by the way I just took delivery of my 1uz last week and I'm as giddy as a school girl. :flipoff2: and if I could get the damn picture to up load that would be great, but after a half hour I'm giving up.

cajunfj40, I just realized in all of my infinite stupidity that the Crown Ecu will most likly not work with the 2uz as it is pretty much a whole different motor so the only route for you would to go with the aftermarket ecu. Unless you could some how squeeze the auto tranny in there with a tundra rear axle then you could just run the stock computer.

sparky thats a sweet score, is that the motor that was in the mud sale section? out of a sc 400. sweet little motor that would fit gloriously in the taco..... i hear that one either bolts straight up to or minimal adapting to get it to work w/ the toyota W 56 5 spd. no direct experience though, but a club member had one in his p/u and it was hot.

no actually I got off of Ebay, its out of a GS400. The only two things that suck about it is that it did not come with any of the accessories (alt, power steering pump ect.) and it is a front sump, so I might have to fabricate a rear sump or just find one from an LS400 I think.

I don't know. I haven't sorted that out yet . I'm guessing with and aftermarktet computer I could probably go with or without it and run the speedo off the stock transfer case cable

and it's posible with a new computer by passs this signal .: ?

I'm not quite sure but I'm taking an educated guess on this one because the electricals are realy not my gig. I'll probably be calling in the aid of my stepbrother who used to be a Ford tech (uhh) when it comes time to deal with that. All though I will say that if I did need to use this signal for some reason I'll just have to get creative to see if I can fabricate one into the mix.

There are some vss availables in the market to adapt for some trannys .. just an idea.

If you're going aftermarket ECU and a manual trans then you should not need it. All the ECU will need is: cam position, intake and coolant temp, intake air pressure, MAF, TPS, O2, and possibly knock sensors as inputs. This is assuming you stick with SMPFI and it has spark included.

I would look at:

MoTec M48
or
FAST XFI
or
Accel DFI
or if you have some time on your hands and don't mind being in uncharted territory there is always
MegaSquirt

hey chwtoy, out of the three, I'm excluding the megasquirt of course, wich is the most user friendly. I'm pretty much a ECU rookie, I can handle wiring and stuff but I guess the tunning is whats worrying me. Also I don't think I have very much of a selection of techs to work on this kind of stuff in my neck of the woods and I don't want to bring to some bozo who going to waste a month of time and thousands of dollars of my money.

The most user friendly would probably be the Fast XFI, but you could probably get the most help online for the Accel. It would probably be worth a phone call to each of them and describe what you are trying to do. The hard part is going to be integrating the factory stuff (TPI, cam sensor, etc), you're probable on pretty new ground there... Maybe try looking up a Supra forum, at least it would be Toyota??

Oh and as far as techs, it's a hit and miss thing. If you get a good one they can save you tons of time and $ others you might as well just figure it out yourself. That would be another good question to ask the manufactures if there are any suggested installers in your area.

I'm not really an expert with this stuff just looked into it pretty heavily but decided I couldn't afford it.

Thanks for the link. I checked it out and didn't find much info on the computer just the part number and stuff. If you could tell me a little bit more info about this ( price, ease of use ect. ) that wood be great. I kind of poked around lextreme on this topic but didn't get much out of it. Thanks again.
