Hey brains trust!

I recently got the mechanic to a leak on all six of the injector delivery lines. Previous to this, the 2H would run a bit rough on cold low idle (no smoke at all), but revving up with the hand throttle fixed this. Once she was warm all was good.

Since fixing these leaks, it seems to run rougher and with more wobble to it - almost sounds like a cammed V8 - and shakes the car a bit (HJ60). It also feels down on power a bit. Once the engine is warm the vibrations reduce a bit, but still sounds as though it cammed with a bit of rhythm to it. Apologies for the descriptions, its hard to convey over text! I made sure the fuel lines were bled (Bosch hand primer installed) and cracked the injector lines as I wasn't sure if air was in the system. Seems to be good with good spurts of diesel on each line. I did notice on injector 3 there was some bubbles but they cleared up before strong spirts of diesel. Starting her the next day cold and it still had the rough, wobbly idle and felt low on power.

I had a scour around the forums and most people seem to have rough idles with smoke. I was thinking of doing glow plugs but she starts fine and doesn't make any white smoke. Injectors next? No blow by one the motor either.

Would appreciate some help from the experts out there!

Can you advise where the original leaks were from and what your mechanic did to resolve them?

Sounds like its sucking some air.. this small guide describes all the possible places that might happen.. If you crack the bleed nipple on the Fuel Filter housing after its been running do you get some diesel expelled immediately, and if you then pump the primer pump do you get good spurts of diesel with each pump immediately?

Thanks for getting back to me! So the leak was on all 6 of the injector lines - similar to this post : 2H Injection Pump Leak - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/2h-injection-pump-leak.565411/post-7417341 .

I got nice good spurts from the primer when I bled the system - I'll have a go cracking the bleeder nipple after its been running to see if I get diesel.

Thanks for that google doc - I'll run through it when I'm home!

if unknown it probably needs doing, makes a nice difference and denso nozzles are pretty cheap for what they are and how long they last, every 100k kms.

If it is new to you, going over the fuel system is well worthwhile. Once refreshed , leaks checked, all set up and happy you can forget about it for 100k kms. Pulling the injectors does require undoing the fuel lines so whilst replacing injectors it is good to refresh it all, glowplugs too, check for leaks, hoses..even worthwhile if not confident to take it to a diesel specialist. You don't have to see them too often, the equipment and maintenance of the equipment they use is quite an investment. Good diesel mechanics are reasonable of price too as they work on tractors, excavators etc. real world stuff, not plastic bs.

But understandably, if you just want to drive around before spending money, you have to check for leaks. Often folks recommend putting a clear pvc hose running from the sedimentor to the pump. If there are any leaks before the pump you can observe the bubbles. Having a clean engine really helps to spot leaks visually. Fuel tank, sedimentor, pump, injectors is the order to trace, with all the lines connecting them

But grand scheme, nothing beats fresh nozzles, the precise machining of them is impressive. Last set I bought, the nozzles were $50-60 bucks each, which is excellent value. Once it is set up proper, the 2h is exceptionally reliable. Hopefully your fuel is fairly fresh too.

Unsure of the age - the motor has 600,000 on it and I am third owner. Is there an easy way to diagnose this without pulling the injectors out?

So this problem has only occurred after the delivery valve gaskets were changed? I am very doubtful that fresh injectors are going to assist - did the pump come off the engine when the mechanic did his work (it shouldn't need to).. but something's gone wrong.

Na, just the lines to replace the gasket inside. She always ran a bit rough when cold on idle, but once warmed up she was sweet. I'm thinking of running her to a diesel mechanic - Haven't had time to go through that spreadsheet you sent - been super busy with work unfortunately. I'm just frustrated wanted that leak fixed!

yes true, the injectors would not make a difference if there is a leak and, if it only happened since you took it to the mechanic. How long have you had it?
I am third owner but have only had the 60 for about a 2 months now. Got the itch for cruisers with Dad and his 80 but the 60s are my favorite!

There is a big bleed screw on the IP itself also, that should be bled first, then then bleed screw at the fuel filter housing, then each Injector as you crank the engine over ( or as it running if it starts up ) worth a try.
