Could carbon build up on the pistons and cause a high compression reading?

There is no room for carbon to build up on the cylinders...

~John

John,
you sure?
i have pulled apart many diesels with carbon layer on top of the pistons. it would take very little to change the compression readings...

Never seen more than maybe 1/10 mm on pistons...

lol carbon build up...
i've seen a cummins with what i'de call a moutain of carbon build up on not one but two cylinders/pistons it ran like s*** but it was running the injectors were facked up and it ran like new after the teardown & injector rebuild

also please send me a pm on how much you want for the 12HT & H55 combo I'm interested
thanks

well I did a compression test today and the napa gauge broke when I was testing the second cylinder so I only have readings for cylinder # 2

I got 440psi on cylinder #2 this time humm?

now I have to wait for a new gauge to test the rest.

Truck started right up and started smoking a lot! and was pukin out some like black sooty goo.

I went for a drive and it smoked a lot A serious smoke screen! went onto the highway and it stopped smoking after about 10mins. I drove for about 45mins to get her nice and hot and charge up the batteries

There are some videos on YouTube of people Seafoam-ing their cars. Pretty amazing smoke screen out the tailpipe.

You should change your oil. Seafoam in the cylinders will leak past the rings and get into the oil pan. It's OK to run Seafoam in the oil for a little while but not a good idea long term.

Yeh, Another aussie enquiring about 'seafoam'
never heard of it, except on this forum. What it do, and does it have any other name?

Dave

it is a chemical cleaner that provides good results in both oil and fuel.

Did you ever do another compression test. I 'd like to hear what happened. I had almost the same results on my 2H. 525 to 550 and then one at 440. Not much power and it would make a hell of a racket for a bit and then quiet right down. I thought it was probably a broken ring. I'd love to hear how you made out.Maybe there is hope for mine yet. pete

I did another compression test and my numbers came out almost exactly the same.

motor uses very little oil and there is less blue smoke @ start up.

it's warm out now so when it starts it is smooth

I installed a oil pressure gauge and with 0W40 synthetic oil here are my readings.

idle is 25psi
2000rpm 65psi
2700 70psi

that is good oil pressure for a mall queen. i have to say that is one of the quietest 2H i have ever heard run.

turbo it and go have fun! (but i would suggest getting the winch fixed first and maybe mount a 8274 above the PTO)<grin>

Yup she sure is a quiet girl! I did your (Crushers) first gear in low range and then press the brakes and couldn't get her to stall she just kept truckin, thou I do still really like the 1PZ in that Beverly Hills Cruiser =]

it's amazing how much the lift and 33's help when looking for a parking spot.

now if I can just get that PTO up to snuff I can pull those little cars out of their spots!

Matt

what is holding you back on the PTO?

<Beverlyhills cruiser, LOL!! nice.>

nothing..... just the thought of being cabled (is that a word even?) to a tree again with no way forward and can't go back cause' the PTO is holding me and I am out of pins. =]

It's actually all ready to go back on I am heading up north this week to finish my rear bumper and install the PTO. maybe just maybe I will get stuck on WSSR and have to give the PTO a go.
