Hello, looking for a low mile, 2F engine for my 1985 FJ60. Unfortunately, my motor just blew. I have had it worked on several times by Landcruiser Northwest in Oregon, but it kept blowing head gaskets and I am not sure why. Could totally be my driving style. I try to take it as easy as possible on the truck, but I am riding dirt bikes every weekend and it is packed down with gear and usually has a bike on the back. I just didnt think a cooler, dog, dirt bike gear, and a 250 lb dirt bike on the back would be considered "too much" gear for this thing. I do go over a lot of mountain passes often lol so that probably didnt help. Ive just heard for so long how "bullet proof" this things are and how long they last but have had nothing but issues.

Anyways, I love this truck and am not ready to give her up. I appreciate any help, ideas, or leads that you may have.

Thanks a lot,

LT

Probably best to find one that’s been rebuilt, the odds of finding a motor that’s 40 plus years old with low miles is highly unlikely.

The shops I’m aware of that do full rebuilds take around 1 year from the time you give them the donor motor and cost around 6k, then you spend another 1k on all new belts , water pump, clutch, flywheel grind and new thermostat. So if your doing it all yourself you’re around 7 to 8k and if a shops doing the work add $$$$$. This is why you see so many folks go LS swap now days , because finding good low time motors for these things is rare.

Not sure what you consider low miles, but if this is still available, I can vouch that you would be getting a great engine.

These engines don't 'keep blowing headgaskets'. Poor install, trash gaskets, etc. Here is one in Twin that popped up, good price. But you said engine blew, pretty vague but sounds like headgasket again....If you want to start with another engine, you could start here and compression test.
