I am planning on changing the OEM aircleaner of my early 2f Carb. Any suggestions /pics on where I can get one?

I ordered one from Summit. A K&N.
Some people have a chip on their shoulder for K&N but I dont.

Hi All:

I would suggest either the OE Toyota air filter, or a quality aftermarket unit like the Wix Gold or NAPA Gold replacements.

Regards,

Alan

Actually I am planning to replace the whole assembly coz its to big and eats up a lot of space.

Hi All:

When I got my '40 it had an aftermarket open element air filter housing with a small K&N oiled filter on it.

The engine in the rig is a '78 2F but the carb was the original from 1974 "F" engine.

When I switched to a Jim Chenowith rebuilt Aisin 2F carb I also installed a 2F air filter housing.

I believe that the OE 2F air filter and housing offers better protection from water and dust, in comparison to the open style of filter element.

Alan

I have a K&N on my 2F and open filter but I will modify it when I can find the stuff to do it with ie. hose extension. I agree with Jose on more protection with enclosed assemblies but too it depends on conditions and replacement availability of K&N's Butchaxe, Planning to sell your oem air cleaner assembly?

being overseas, do you have the air cleaner assembly that sits next to the engine? similar to our older F engine.
anychance you can source one of the "US" models that sits on top of the valve cover?

I'll try to look for one.Is that a better alternative?

here's one option

I have a 2f as well and was in a similar situation. My cruiser was missing the air cleaner assembly when I got it and the PO had some jury-rigged thing that was falling apart. I don't like the factory air cleaner assembly because it takes up so much space and looks god-awful (just my opinion). This is what I used. It works pretty well. I will say that there is an aluminum plate that the cleaner sits on, and it would have been a much better and cleaner design- had they simply made it a little smaller and put it inside the filter instead of below it. Note*** It does sit pretty high and I had to turn it at an angle and cut one of the hood bolts flush with the nut so it would fit. If they moved the aluminum plate though, it would fit perfect- and look better.

Hi All:

Sorry saryon7 but this is pretty much exactly like the air filter assembly that was on the engine in my FJ40 when I bought it in 1997. When I switched to the re-built 2F Aisin carb in 2003 (?) I installed the factory 2F air filter housing.

Alan

Hi All:

This is the type of OE Toyota air filter housing I swapped-in (but without the various emissions-related hoses, etc.)

Regards,

Alan

here's a pic of the setup in my 1980 40 series.
