I have a K&N on my 2F and open filter but I will modify it when I can find the stuff to do it with ie. hose extension. I agree with Jose on more protection with enclosed assemblies but too it depends on conditions and replacement availability of K&N's Butchaxe, Planning to sell your oem air cleaner assembly?
being overseas, do you have the air cleaner assembly that sits next to the engine? similar to our older F engine.
anychance you can source one of the "US" models that sits on top of the valve cover?
I'll try to look for one.Is that a better alternative?
I have a 2f as well and was in a similar situation. My cruiser was missing the air cleaner assembly when I got it and the PO had some jury-rigged thing that was falling apart. I don't like the factory air cleaner assembly because it takes up so much space and looks god-awful (just my opinion). This is what I used. It works pretty well. I will say that there is an aluminum plate that the cleaner sits on, and it would have been a much better and cleaner design- had they simply made it a little smaller and put it inside the filter instead of below it. Note*** It does sit pretty high and I had to turn it at an angle and cut one of the hood bolts flush with the nut so it would fit. If they moved the aluminum plate though, it would fit perfect- and look better.
Woot Woot! Trollhole carbs!
here's a pic of the setup in my 1980 40 series.
