$5 for a tub o grease that I can use for an axle job later.

Dunno. That bearing looks like crap and it's been running dry (looks like). For a $10 bearing you really wanna risk it seizing and the belt snapping? Very easy to pop that bearing out.

Chinese bearing is cheap as $3

Still running strong. Agree if the bearing was worn out.

That bearing/pulley hardly makes contact With the belt. It probably would’ve worked just fine even without it on there. When I got mine, the pulley wasn’t even making contact with the belt. I also repacked mine several months ago and it’s been fine.

With the engine stopped, that idler barely makes contact, but with the engine running and A/C on, the belt deflects (that's why the idler is there) and at 2500 engine RPM that small bearing is spinning something like 30K rpm.

That pic above is laid out backwards.
Mine was installed that way and the idler had rubbed against the mount, heated up and was seized. Finally found this pic.
Also, for some reason, o'reillys shows that part number as a bearing with one open side like one of the above pics. napa shows it sealed...

With the AC belt tight and the engine off, should you be able to spin the idler pulley?

indeed some times YES ,

the 2F TAN FAS outlines the correct adjustment procedure and specs.

this pulley is as mush a anti. vibration and anti belt SLAPPING up and down as much it is a idele'r pulley too .......
