OK, from reading the various threads, it seems like there is a general consensus that both 285/75/16 and 305/70/16 fit the stock 80s without rubbing, at least with the BFG AT.
But what about 295/75/16? A tad taller than the 285/75. Anybody knows for sure if they would fit in both wells and spare location?
thanks

I know they would if the truck were new...but 7 years of sag my change that.

I run 285 BFGs with ARB bullbar/winch and ARB full-length roof rack...still on stock springs. With all of this extra weight and old springs, I have no issues with 285s...so I'd bet that 295s would be no problem especially if the truck isn't ladden with lotsa extras.

Yes, OME is always the next thing on my list.

Try searching for "new meats" - pretty sure there's a good 295 thread out there.

I am really looking at these tires as well. I have found no one on here is currently using them (at least no one responded to my inquires about them). I believe the only real problem w/ rubbing has been the 305's because they are wider. I do not believe they 295’s will rub. The tires should breakdown like this, 295x75= 221.25mm, 221.25 millimeters = 8.71 inches x2 = 17.42 + 16 inch rim = 33.42 inches wide. I know the manufactures real height maybe a little different but this is pretty close. I like the idea of having 33.5x11.5 tire; this is the best of both worlds. Little taller then 33 and not as wide as 12.5. Should help w/ clearance and gas mileage, IMOP. Now if we could only get these in the MT/R's?

yes, good thread. Seems like they fit.

(odd though, I did run a search on "295 75" first and that thread did not come up)

What are the cons of 285/75/16 tires on stock? Shouldn't be enough of a change over 275/70/16 to make a noticable difference in ride and mileage would it?

The difference in ride is more likely due to the fact that most folks switch to a different type/more aggressive tire when going from a stock 275/70 to a 285/75. Going from a stock Michelin to a M/T or even a fairly aggressive A/T is obviously going to make a difference. I haven't noticed much difference in mileage.

34x10.50x16 LTBs appear to be my choice now that the cruiser will be moving into a fulltime offroad capacity...

I was running my 295/75/16's on my stock suspension for a while and had no problem. I however never took them off road until I lifted my truck. I believe they would be fine off road as long as you don't have any aftermarket bumpers. In my case I had a Kaymar with tire and jerry can carriers. I was sagging so much in the rear that I had about an inch of clearance between the fender flares and the top of the tire. I bottomed out on the tires a couple times and I believe the rubbed on the fender lip a little. This was when I would go over speed bumps too fast with 3 people in the back.

The tires are great, I just don't recommend running them forever if you have a saggy rear due to the stock springs and an aftermarket bumper.

Oh yeah.. I noticed a difference going from 285's to 295's, I could only imagine you'd notice about the same performance decrease when you switch up from 275/70's.. slower off the line, doesn't hold speed on hills as well.. but on the plus side it's lower highway rpm's. IMO, if you go any bigger than 295's you should really think hard about regearing.

Oh, and no rubbing with the OME package!

To me the next logical question is, will the 295/75/16 spare fit under the stock carrier?

I have the 295's and my truck is close to stock.

except for the engine and trans that have been replaced 5x per this forum, and also the nut behind the wheel that still needs to be replaced with a fully-functioning model...? :D :D :D

285, or 295, or........................ :censor:

e - the engine twice and only once on the transmission. The nut behind the wheel is a custom job, not easily replicated.
