Looking into a new set of tires on a LC 100 I am looking at purchasing...It is my understanding that 285s area great overall tire size. And, will not rub without a lift. 295s give you and extra inch of clearance, but will occasionally rub without a lift...

Is this correct? Anything I am missing? I would like as much clearance as possible and will be putting on a lift this spring.

Thanks much for any thoughts, Mike

It might depend on the type and brand of tire as well - check the manufactures page.
There have been records of slight rubbing when in flex (off-road situations) with some 295's.
If you are going to lift, then those few occasions will go away. Depends on if you plan on wheeling prior to the lift, if not you should be ok (that is you don't mind a potantial rub)

Dont forget the before and after photos.

I ran 295/75R 16 Nitto Terra Grapplers for a year or so before my lift. Minor rubbing at full lock and off road in some situations. It was never an issue for me. Everything was perfect once Slee installed the medium OME. :D

Would you say running 295's on a daily basis with AHC is okay? Run it in normal mode for day to day driving and engage my free 2" lift :hillbilly: for off roading? Would it rub on the wheel wells under normal driving?

Thanks, 2000uzj, but I was wondering more about stock height, without a lift. Pretty much everybody in there is running a lift, and they would obviously clear the tires fine, but I'm not sure about my rig. I'm still at a stock height, without an AHC height lift or a slee speed lockout. I was wondering if I would rub under normal height.

wont rub anymore than with the lift. maybe just a little more often. I ran nitto TG 295 for 6 months before adding a lift. I think the front mudflaps had to come off to fit 295's

Thanks farinvail. That's exactly the information I needed. Now for some 295/75 bfg's.... Damn michelins take forever to wear :crybaby:

cmfhsu, Are you putting these tires on stock 16s? I'm starting my hunt for tires too. Thanks guys.

Yup. I'm mounting them on stock LX wheels. once these POS michelin mud/snows wear out ill be getting a set of bfg all terrains in 295/75. AHC is awfully nifty for clearing bigger tires...

Lift and/or AHC not required to run BFG AT 295x75x16.

^ i love that picture. the 295's just fill the wheel well. Makes me want a black cruiser, really really bad

I run my 36"x12.5" Simex with the AHC on N, you should be fine (they really do fill the arches :D). When you lift / go to H it pulls the front wheels in a little so you have less clearance to the chassis like that than unlifted / N.

Wildsmith, you don't have an AHC sensor lift, do you?

I have about a 10mm AHC sensor lift and a 40mm body lift now. When I first ran the Simex I had no lift at all. When I did the test fitting I ran the AHC in L as a simple way of seeing what happened with it on the bump stops. Neither of those lifts does anything to stop the slight rubbing on the upper arms or frame at full lock. The 36x12.5 Simex is probably about as big as I could see working without spacers but then you'd have major clearance problems at the rear of the front wheel openings. Those are not my DD tyres, for that I have 285x75x18's which are a lot smaller than the Simex and before that I had 285x75x16's for DD's.
