24v wiper relay for rear wiper 85940-90A05

Intermittent relay 85940-90A05 is the 24 volt version.
I want to use it for the rear wiper to stop continuous wiping :p
EDIT: Maat suggest it should be rear intermittent so the box in the rear is missing!

This is a great 12v writeup to go from 4 sec to more sec. interval:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/556802-intermittent-wiper-mod-fixed-variable-delay.html

Under the steeringwheel I found a red box: wiper relay 85940-90A05
It seems that this is the new model for the intermittent wiper!

And I have to find the relay for the rear wiper, maybe I can replace that one with an intermittent model?

This helps a lot, But there the wiper box is green :bang:

I have seen pictures of the old model intermittent relay and the inside is a small wonder with gears inside, but I just need 24v in and delayed 24v out, and maybe a ground wire.

I must say we have the ideal temperature for messing with electricks right now :grinpimp:

Now while others have engines with worn out pistons my simple wish for an intermittent rear wiper seems irrelevant, but the agony and sorrow is shared :flipoff2:

Mud supplied this great pdf with all I need for now I hope:

seeing as most 60s came with the same wiring loom regardless of badges i would guess you have the harness to plug in the rear wiper control. i just replaced the box as mine got soaked and rotted out. its in the rear left inner panel and its pink/purple like the front wipers one. mine is also 24v and my rear wiper is intermittent.. i can get the part number off it if you like but i doubt its still available new from toyota then you just need the intermittent switch for your dash and plug it all in

Thanks a lot Maat for this answer!
(maat means pal, dude, partner in dutch :D )

Now I understand more and below is a picture.
I will hunt a used wiper control box and that would be funny if it ends up with no soldering and just plug in and have intermittent wipe.

Maybe if the box is removed the rear wiper simply goes on and off or somebody bypassed it and it will be a challange to rebuild?

Thanks a lot, me dont have that :crybaby:
But right now I am mailing with a person that has the same partnumber, this is going to happen (even before the next rustwelding) :bounce:

Something to find out if this is just missing or G model did not have it!

5 wires?

The relay is on its way :wrench: thanks again.

But in the chassis-body PDF 10/84 > 1/90 I dont find a relay in the back, but three in the front.

My HJ60 is made in japan on 05-1985

So this is not ready yet... :wrench::doh::wrench:

I do have the correct swith:
push down =wash
nothing=off
push1=wipe
push2=wipe+wash

It looks like If I put this box inbetween the + wire and 4 in and 3 out I have intermittent peace of mind...

I got 85940-90A11, connected #4 in to #3 out and no intermittent :o
Available connections are different, not possible to just connect 85940-90A11.
I should have known as the test schematic does not show it to be intermittent.
I hope I am using the wrong schematics, need more info and trying to figure out what the 5 connections do:

Ordered 85940-90A05 which is allready in my dash  remove it and front wiper has no intermittent/no return.

No matter what this will work out, no stress, just  :bang::mad::crybaby::skull:

85940-90A05 is show intermittent testable so if anybody can get the 85940-90A11 to be intermittent speak out now or be silent forever :flipoff2:  "The flow of current operates the intermittent circuit" <--!
Maybe 85940-90A11 is controlled by the front 85940-90A05 one?
I need to get the schematics to see what is going on, back to the PDF!

No marks at all, ... 85940-90A11 wiper control 24v
file.php

file.php

I found a way were the output was half of normal (maybe slow and fast wiper) but with half the wiper is really slow And the box starts to smell funny, so no slow wiperrrrr.
This is the power to the rear wiper wire: cut it and the wiper stops and returns to park.
file.php

This below is a very important wire: the stop and return to park position wire, this needs to be hooked up with any box that may be used! otherwise the wiper stops immediatly and does not return!
cut it and the wiper does not return anymore.
file.php

so whatever box is going to work: you need one wire that gets a signal to start the wiper, and another wire that signals the wiper to return to park (allways 24v on it)
and one power wire in so three wires at least.

Got it to work in our 83 HJ60 per these diagrams

First, thanks to hj60, maat, and sved - all who got me started into this and provided the basics for me to figure out the wiring diagrams and parts needed. We finally have a working intermittent rear wiper. The new intermittent wiper switch (84653-32020) is a little longer and narrower than the existing constant wiper switch (84653-90A00), so we removed our original center console (58810-90A00-03) and installed one from a later model HJ61 (58911-90A01-03) which is set up for the new switch size. (It gave us the opportunity to add heated seats and a courtesy light switch too, and it has greater storage capacity.) If you';re going to undertake something similar, you'll have to shim under the new console which is designed to sit on a heater enclosure and provide something to span between the carpet and the bottom of the console; we used more carpet glued to a plastic plinth made from another center console.

Hi,

What is hidden behind that square lid in the front of the consol??

Hi Rankuru, congratulations that is really nice you got it working, it almost drove me insane so I postponed the whole idea until my kids leave the house :hillbilly:
I will try it, must try because giving up was no option, lol. :bounce::clap:

Never give up

You're right, hj60 - never give up! I could see that in all your posts and was determined to keep going too. Then sved's great advice made the difference. sved, the item inside the holding spot on the console is an Audi retractable electrical socket (salvage yard gems). I put one on the front and another on the back. Pics included. After I took those pics, I added a courtesy light in the base and a couple LEDs to light the sockets in the rear (on a switch on the console) to folks in the rear can find them at night. Thanks again to both of you for the inspiration!

It's been raining and misty for three days now here in Orlando - a super rarity in Winter - and that intermittent wiper is getting a good work-out!

85940-90A11 on ebay.fr

Hi hj60 & sved,
If either of you are looking for the rare and hard-to-find 85940-90A11, there are a couple available from a salvaged parts dealer in France on ebay auction. Relatively speaking, it's not too far away from you, eh? Though they're expensive, if you're looking for one, they appear so infrequently that you might consider buying one. The seller's ad says he'll ship only within France, but usually people will agree to send things farther if you'll pay the shipping cost (and these are lightweight, small items). Here's a link:

All the best to you!
