My wipers do not come on at all in the intermittent setting. They worked perfectly till I had my dash apart for a radio/antennae install this previous weekend (still in progress but that's another story:o). The wipers work on slow and fast settings, but when I turn them off they immediately stop wherever they are in their stroke. My relay made no funny noises like I find in other threads on the subject. What simple moronic oversight is this simple moron missing?

Thanks Jim. The only thing I touched before it went south is the ground when I was using it for my antennae install. I'll start on your list of things to check when I get home from work tonight.:cheers:

Just checked the 60 FSM (page BE-23) and their troubleshoot for wipers not working in intermittant is;
-wiper control relay faulty (Check relay),
-wiper motor faulty (Check motor),
-wiring or ground faulty (repair).
in that order.

Thanks roalco! I checked my FSM for wiring diagram, but totally missed the troubleshooting page:o.

I'm guessing my ground is at fault. Will chase it tonight and report back.
Thanks!

No worries, the 84 FS manual has it and the 80 FSM doesn't... so you had a good excuse to miss it!

If it turns out that your wiper control relay is toast I have one for sale.

Sorry to take so long to get back to this. Been busy chasing kids around to basketball games, dance classes, helping with homework, etc.

Cleaned up the ground (was partially stripped sometime in its previous life). Tapped for 8mm bolt and now it's clean, but didn't solve my intermittent wipers woes.

Need some confirmation on location for the wiper relay. I've looked here based on info gleaned from a Mud search....

...but none of those relays look like the one in the FSM.

The wiper relay has been described as black and square about 1" in size. Pulling any of these with the wipers running on slow or fast does not stop their operation.

Side note: what's that nearest round one do? That sucker was HOT after a 1/2 hour drive, and the rig won't idle with it pulled.

It's the green box under the dash just right of the gas pedal...

:bounce:87 HJ60 for the win!:clap::bounce2:
Thanks man!:cheers:

I was looking on the wrong side:o. It's tucked up underneath there about right behind the rear-wiper switch on my dash.

Sorry for the bad pic, but it's the green box above. NOW it has a connector plugged into it:o. The box below is the remote junction box of the CB I'm installing. I somehow knocked that connector loose in the process and didn't notice.

Butt's wipers work now!

...errr wait. that didn't sound right!
