What does the vac. pump attached to the 12HT alternator? Can you replace one alternator with a different pn# if the vac. pump is attached so you don't have to worry about fitting the shaft to the old pump?

try the diesel section..... you may get more info.
The pump provides vac. to the brake booster, there is not a source on the diesel for vac.
as long as there is a pump (provided it gives an equivalent amount) on a replacement alt., you should be able to use it. Some people run aftermarket pumps if they convert from 24V to 12V or just want to run an alt. without a pump.
