I'm starting a new thread here to keep track of my journey with all of the updates to this baby. This is not just my first overlanding build/vehicle but my first even large vehicle/truck. I'm looking forward to journey I will have with this truck and all of the adventures I will be going on it with my family.

Upgrades I have done so far:
-Morimoto XB LED headlights
-TRD grille
-Dobinsons 2.5" IMS lift
-18x9 Method MR701 bronze wheels with +25 offset
-35x11.5 Falken Wildpeak AT4W tires
-Joying 10.1 Radio

Future upgrades in order of priority:
-RCI skid plates
-Sherpa roof rack
-Rock sliders
-Rear offroad bumper with swing outs to carry rear spare tire
-Front offroad high clearance bumper
-Rear locker/regear

There's a local shop that is doing a promotion for all Toyota regears for $3,000. I gave them a call and asked how much would it cost with rear locker installed. They said it would cost $5,400 for 5.29 regear with electronic rear locker. Does this sound like a good deal? I'm also located in SF Bay Area so labor should be more expensive compared to other areas.

I’m just going to ask. Why are you wanting to regear and do a locker? That is a LOT of money for something that is going to give you very little gain. My Tundra has the same running gear as your Sequoia, including the 4.30 ratio, and mine absolutely loves being on 35s. MPGs might increase “slightly” if you regear, but it would take you years and years until you even got to the point of paying off the gears in fuel savings. Power to tow or drive offroad is not lacking at all with the 35s.

I was just looking at the sale that my local shop is doing and if it was good enough to bite and do it now. I decided not to do it now anymore and continue to progress with my other upgrades first but a regear and locker is definitely in order for later in the future. For now, I just ordered a full set of skid plates for engine, transmission, fuel tank, and cat covers. I'll be looking to do rock sliders next and probably roof rack after.

35s are still running fine but you definitely do feel start feeling the difference and loss of power, even though it may not be much, from the stock gear and being on 35s especially when carrying a heavy load. I'm not sure if I'll ever upgrade to 37s but that is an option far later in the future as I definitely like the looks of 37s much more than 35s and think they look just right. Also I'll likely be looking into get a boat within a few years and want to be ready to tow a 23' boat. The main thing is I will eventually want to do rear lockers as I don't want to be limited on trails compared to other people in my group and if I'm going rear locker then might as well regear at the same time. I don't think most people regear and get rear lockers for fuel savings.

It's been a while but wanted to provide updates to my build to keep track of my journey. Here's what I've added thus far.

-Tandem Offroad rock sliders
-Sherpa Harvard Roof Rack
-RCI engine, transmission and fuel tank skid plates with cat guards

Next in line:
-ICS fab dash molle panel. Just received this, just need to install.
-Purchased and waiting to receive rear tire carrier to get a full size spare. Decided to go this route for now. Front bumper and rear bumper with swing outs will be a few years down the line
-Prospeed Rear Window molle panel
-Lights, lights, and lights. Fog lights, ditch lights, 40" light bar for roof rack and rear chase lights. I like the idea of the Garmin Power Switch to control the lights via app on my phone/tablet

Where did you get the TRD Grille and did you have any issue with it bolting up? I have a near identical 2017 Limited that I'm just starting to mod. Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply. I got the trd grille from Umnitza. The guy that runs this supplies and sells a lot stuff for 2nd gen Sequoia. I got the grille and morimoto lights from him. He's also in the process designing tail lights that I'm waiting for to see how they turn out. I also preordered a rear spare tire carrier from him that he got manufacturer from a factory.

Awesome! Thanks for the link.

It's starting to feel like that old Arnold Schwarzenneger/ Danni Davito movie Twins. Time for an ARB bumper, Lol. The Tandem sliders look sweet, but they are seriously thin. Mine came pre- dented in, and when I put the scrub bars on, the curved front section was SUPER thin. I don't know how thick the main square tube is, but the outer tube is probably less than 1/8" I'd say closer to 0.100" since the ARB scrub bar was thicker on the bend than the Tandem was. Looking good though. I need to pick up the fuel skid.

Tandem was one of the few options for sliders and I like the guys from Tandem. They have great service and they're responsive in 2g Sequoia groups. If you don't like the Tandem slider, RCI just recently came out with sliders for 2g Sequoia would be another great option as well since they always put out quality products.

With that spare tire carrier does it block the backup camera?

My Tundra has the camera in the tailgate latch module, I hadn’t been behind enough G2 Sequoias to know that setup.
