Hello all, I have a 2011 Sequoia Platinum that's giving me rear hatch problems. I let the truck sit for about 3 months so I had to jump start it and replace the battery. After I jumped the truck it started warning me that the rear door is open. Here are the symptoms:

I get two beeps if I try the power hatch from the dashboard, rear, or remote buttons. It doesn't open or close automatically.

I can manually open and close it. If I close it manually, the automatic closer clicks exactly 4 times then I get a long beep from the front of the truck. It does close the hatch though as I can't pull it open unless I press the hatch button to manually open it.

Some Sequoias and other Toyotas have a way to disable the power hatch either via a button on the dash or in the glove box. My manual warns to disable it if I'm changing a tire but doesn't tell me how. I can't find a disable/enable button anywhere.

The rear window goes up and down without any problems.

This might be relevant, a couple years ago the auto up feature of the window stopped working right after I took the truck on a very long dirt road. It would go up automatically then come down. I read online that dirt and debris might be causing the mechanism to think there's an obstruction. I blew off the sides with compressed air and i was back in business.

Just now I removed the back panel and tried to clean the inside with an electric blower. There was a lot more dirt than i anticipated. Sadly the truck still thinks the rear door is open.

I did lubricate the latch with spray silicone lubricant but that did nothing.

When I replaced the battery I had it disconnected for at least 30 minutes, I think this would have reset all electronics.

The manual has a small tidbit about reinitializing the rear hatch, I followed the steps 3 or 4 times.

Lastly I think this is draining my battery even though I have all lights powered off. I drove the truck exclusively for 10 days including a 300 miles road trip without any additional problems. I parked it Tuesday and I had to jump start today.

I'm not too mechanically savvy so I'm looking for thoughts or ideas before I take it in to a shop. Thanks!

I had this happen about a month ago, the latch was getting rusty. I caught it early, so I was able to fix it with some Amsoil Metal Protector. If it is completely stuck and you cannot hear it moving when you push the automatic close button, it may need to be replaced. If it seems to be moving, just not opening all the way, I would try a good anti rust spray. I hosed it down a few times over about an hour, did the trick for me.
