So I called the local Toyota dealership and they told me they only have 75w85 and only to use that or the limited slip won’t work blah blah blah.

Than I called Lexus and they said they use chevron 75w90 only and they order it in bulk. Said it’s not much different than 75w85.

I said f it and drove down to autozone and picked up 75w90 Mobil 1.

Didn’t waste anytime. Just finished the front and rear differential fluid.

So I called lexus and Toyota again about the transfer case fluid and both said the 75w was a typo in the owners manual and they both use 75w90 gl4/gl5. Thoughts?

Edit: just called another 4 different Lexus dealerships and they all use 75w90 in the transfer case. Wtf mate! Why state to only use 75w in the manual?

synthetic is the way to go.
Also, what color are your factory carpets?
I don't need them, but just asking for anyone else who has the same interior.

There are some 3rd party alternatives to straight 75W now. I do know the viscosity of the that transfer case fluid was far thinner than the diff fluid on mine anyway.

Came across this in the past.

Last time I check Amsoil won't even get a recommendation for 4R Limited, GX and I assume LC/LX transfer cases. Too much doubt across all sources so I did OEM last time. I will try out the Ravenol 75W next time.

Ya I’ve seen a few that were 75W approved. The redline mtl is 75W and 80W approved so I’m good. It’s funny that every Lexus and Toyota dealership I called still put 75w90 in ALL transfer cases. I don’t think 75w90 will hurt but I’d rather just spend a few more bucks and get something that is in the owners manual.

Is the oem 75W fluid red or gold color?

Just changed the transfer case fluid and noticed there’s no magnet on the drain plug like the front and rear diff. Is that normal?
