And finally got the harness completely out of the red 40. Now the real fun begins.

In prep for the June trip, I drilled a big hole and several smaller holes in my perfectly unmolested fender of 19 years. Last Saturday Matt and I put the snorkels on the 80s and tonight I picked up the Cabelas Trail Gear seat covers. One of them was a return so I had to restring it and "assemble" it but they went on pretty quickly and fit fairly snug. According to my buddy that runs them, they're really water resistant. Who else is running these things?

Also, bled my brakes. Surprisingly, the thing stops halfway decent and has a good solid feel in the pedal now.

Anyhow, a couple of pictures:

Able to keep the door on? I think @1MAC is the last in the group needing his PADI certification but rumor has it he's working towards it.

Kept the door on but couldn't contort my arm to get the last nut on there! It's solid without it, though. Seems like most people give up on that last nut but I'll try to get around to it before the trip.

Also running the trail gear covers on both 80's. They fade pretty quick but mine have held up decent enough for two years. They like to slide around a lot on my wife's seats (leather) but seem to stick pretty good to the cloth in my truck.

Glad to hear another good review...and for $36 (on sale right now), they're worth it if they protect my seats through this trip and then quit on me. Does the material create any wear on the leather underneath?

Snorkel looks good Jack. Is that brake fluid green!?!?!

Thanks! It has a little bit of a greenish "hue" to it but don't know for sure why. I'm pretty sure the line used as transfer was used to carry windshield washer fluid through it before so that could very well have created the tint.

Okay, had some time to get into the garage and snug everything up. I used some silicone on the washer and got it on the stud. With the antenna bolt removed and the bracket moved to the side, I was able to thread the nut. I used a ratcheting wrench just to get it spun a couple times and hit it with a 1/4" drive to finish it up. She's definitely tight on the fender.

If at first you don't succeed, build it bigger! Replaced the knuckles with 6 shooters and went to IFS hubs. That keeps the same 3" wider track width but allowed me to ditch the wheel spacers.

Well I guess I am stuck with 37's for a while. The new basket for gas cans wound up a little closer to the spare than I thought it was going to be. I should have put the lug nuts on during tacking.

Oh yeah, moved the high lift to the other side of spare and installed cheap roll over protection for front passenger. ;)

Got some more work done this weekend in preparation for Arkansas:

  • Replaced Tie rod with Slee HD tie rod and new ends
  • Tape measure aligned it (was actually toe out before adjusting)
  • New driver front window regulator
  • fixed front speakers
  • Re-soldered some of the wiring for rock lights to make them function again
Still need to do front axle rebuild, rear brakes, extend rear breather, switch out my rear doors with the donors I picked up, install ham radio unit, and adjust something on my exhaust that is squeaking/vibrating.

...And check pucker factor fluid...coming back from lunch a pickup pulled out in front of me while I was going about 40. Slammed on the brakes and turned away from him, off the road, pumped brakes once, back on the road, around him and on my way.

Brake test...check...

Boost is getting some sliders.....

They may be a little heavy.... the last picture shows some serious cruiser lean to the driver side. That was when driver slider was installed, and I had not put the passenger side on yet!

More pics on Boost's thread.

Nice work on the sliders. I've been working on my sliders too. I don't have the outer tubes yet but there mounted on the cruiser but for got to grab pics. Here is a pic of the main tubes. They kick down on both ends about an inch to get them closer to the rocker. I have to make things difficult

Very similar goals -- amazing that both of us are doing the same thing at the same time! I have not seen anyone else doing anything like this. I adapted my ends by cut and slicing them with some added reinforcement. With the angle, I found the lower half did not need any modification, just the upper to clear those bumpouts by the wheels.

nice. I like your method better. mine is just as tight to the body as yours in middle. but then stick out and down more at the ends. nice work
