4103.5 Campfire Defined - “Campfire” means a fire which is used for cooking, personal warmth, lighting, ceremonial or aesthetic purposes. This includes fires contained within outdoor fireplaces and enclosed stoves with flues or chimneys, stoves using jellied, liquid, solid, or gaseous fuels, portable barbecue pits and braziers, or space heating devices which are used outside any structure, mobile home, or living accommodation mounted on a motor vehicle. “Campfire” does not include portable lanterns designed to emit light resulting from a combustion process. - See more at: Prevent Wildfire - California Fire Restrictions & Campfire Safety

Yes, usually no fires except in the springs where it's private property.

Sometimes the restriction is based on altitude, so over 6500 feet may be legal where below that is not. Check in at the forest service on the way in. The rangers at the Eldorado National Forest Headquarters are generally very helpful. Headquarters is right on Hwy 50 on the way up the hill.

thx for that, forgot that the springs was PP, found out yesterday we have to move so I am up in the year for this years rubithon now, we will see, :(

do they usually restrict campfires? wondering if I should bring my gas propane fire pit? that is considered a stove and can be used even if there are fire restrictions.

You can use the propane fire pits as a stove and they are legal. The reason is you can shut the fuel source off and there are no embers that get left behind. However you do still have to have a fire permit to use one. There is a link on the rubithon website. But here is the link for you: Prevent Wildfire - California Campfire Permit Online

Hope you are able to make it still, I sent you an email earlier today about it.

arghh! I can not get that website to issue me a permit. It seems to be broken.

Try again. I just did it using Google Chome with no problems. Otherwise, you can get one from any CalFire firestation of FS Ranger station. They are free. Even though I just did the one online, I like the one from the FS/CalFire because they are smaller and fit easily in your wallet.

I used a charcoal grill (only in the Springs) legally last year. As wet as it is now I'd be surprised if there are any restrictions this year.

That video seems like a lifetime ago. While the snow was deep that year and extremely slippery, the drifts were actually bigger in 2010 on the exit from Rubicon Springs. Don't really know what to expect this year. Assuming it gets hot soon, it could all melt in a hurry.

I am expecting deep water on the approach to the springs, and lots and lots of Mosquitos.

Congrats to Gary Kardum of Mudrak Custom Crusiers, our April winner for the extra grand prize ticket. Only 27 more days to get your registrations in without paying a late registration fee!

@Bad Coco , question for you. I've got some adults coming with me that are not family members and I'd like them to have CALSTAR coverage as well. Some are TLCA members, some aren't. Can they purchase just CALSTAR membership through the Rubithon online registration for $30, or do they need to purchase directly from CALSTAR ($45/individual).

I can absolutely take care of them, TLCA membership is not required. I'd love to see every person on the trail with this insurance and I will do my best to make it happen.

If they are coming but not bringing a different rig, I would prefer to get their email so I can send them the form and they can pay directly. That way Rubithon doesn't take a hit on the credit card charges. Have them email me or send me their email address to chairman@rubithon.com

I'd like to thank James Lafeminak AKA Stainless 40/45 on IH8MUD for making this awesome plaque for winners of our Rock Chef competition.

I will be getting past winners names engraved on it and it will presented every year to the winners for bragging rights. The returned for the next winners.

Will go nicely with the shirts that Metal-tech 4X4 provides them.

So break out your camp cooking gear and get your Chef on! Only 2 more years to get qualified for our Championship of Champions at the 30th annual Rubithon!
