I started up the 200 this am, and it won't get out of park, with brake depressed.

I popped the manual override and depressed, still nothing.

Checked taillamps, and they're fine.

Found two fuse blocks under the hood, checked one (brake?) in larger block, and was fine - a 7.5.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

With the truck turned off and the transmission in Park, try releasing the emergency brake and rocking the truck forward and backward while in Park. Then turn the truck on with the engine running and try shifting out of Park.

Best I can think of.

HTH

You may be able to see some of the shifter linkage underneath the truck as well. It'd probably be good to check underneath to make sure nothing got lodged (or crawled up there) in the shifter linkage.

My mechanic once suggested disconnecting battery for 5 minutes in a similar situation.

Thanks for your replies - I'll try these first thing in the am.

Interesting problem. Would like to know how you resolve it. I wonder if that interlock device has failed. The battery disconnect method may help. Is the truck on a slope and it's weight resting on the park setting?

When you pressed the shift lock release, did you continue to hold it down as you tried to shift into gear?

If so, then the transmission is in limp mode for a fault. Usually only a Toyota dealer has the computer to tap into an ECU and fully bring a vehicle out of limp mode, as it is wildly expensive. It is much more than a TIS of OBDII reader.

Are there any other issues? Like radio doesn't turn on, fan or A/C won't engage. It has to do with limp mode criteria.

Everything else works fine, and I tried the override switch to no avail.

The oddity now is the dealer will only look at the car at the dealership, so I have to get it towed while stuck in park - would the tow company put it on dollys?

What a mess.

I am going to try the battery disconnect and override again before the traveling circus.

Does it sound like it's even trying to shift out of park mechanically?

Did you try rocking it?

they will have to put it on dollys or disconnect the drive shafts - something will have to be done - dollys being the easiest - sucks man

That's where my question was leading to as well. I would also try jacking up the rear end off the ground and allow any driveline tension to unwind. Maybe some goofy position sensor malfunction.

The override is mechanical, so the problem must be mechanical as well.

If it won't go into Neutral it's got to be one of the first 3 on the list. From the GSIC, which I happen to be looking at today for my own reasons...

Vehicle does not move when shift lever is in any forward position and reverse position:

No, the AB60F is an electric/mechanical shift lock system.

There are two solenoids that control the shift lock before you can mechanically shift, which funny enough only tells a sensor on the transmission and goes back to electrical.

Okay, I've been away from the dealer and didn't get much exposure to the newer Cruisers.
