Hello,
My name is Steve and I'm a detailer in the Phoenix area. I am currently trying to help a customer that has a problem with their left side mirror, and I'm hopeful I will find the answer here.

When the key is turned to the on position, the mirror's motor begins to run and runs continuously for a while until it just stops on its own after a few mins. During this time, there is no movement of the mirror. When the switch is pressed to fold or extend the mirrors, the right side mirror functions properly but there is no movement of the left side mirror.

Would this situation indicate an issue with the motor(s) inside the mirror housing or the mirror control module? Is there a way to verify which one is the culprit?

Thank you for your time.

I had a non moving mirror but it got bumped when I walked by and hit it. I think I moved it back and forth a few times and popped it back into place. It finally caught and started working again when I pressed the folding button.

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, unfortunately, I've tried all manner of holding, forcing, restraining, swinging, etc., to no avail. The customer has been dealing with it for a couple of years, apparently. I'm shocked that the motor hasn't burned out at this point considering how long it runs every time the key is turned.
I'm hopeful I can find out if it's the mirror or the control module in the door.

I'd wager neither.

It sounds like a mechanical issue after the motor. Something like a stripped gear or broken part.

You could try to disassemble and fix. Likely will require a whole assembly removal and replacement. I'd suggest a used unit. Try ebay.com or car-parts.com

Thank you for the replies. I don't believe the issue lies with the control module due to the fact that the right side mirror functions properly. I'm going to find a mirror for him and order it. I will post back once I have solved the problem.

I had my mirror apart to replace a cracked turn signal. It's pretty easy to take apart. You do not have to remove the mirror to gain access to the inside of the housing.

I would take 15 minutes to open it up and take a poke around. I'd imagine it's a stripped gear of some sort.

Even if it is just a stripped gear, there aren't any replacement parts available down to that level. It's just a retractor, the whole mirror assy or nothimg.

The weird thing I'm seeing is the mirror sold for the LX570 is a lot less expensive and it appears to be the same mirror.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely pull it apart.

I have a mirror issue too. Passenger side wigged our at LCDC but an LC fairy fixed it as it clicked itself back into place. Today an LC gremlin jacked it up again. Looking for details on disassembly as I hate just prying on plastic parts not knowing exactly how they are snapped together.

Exact same thing happening to me!

So got the mirror off (had to take the whole inner door panel off). So now the question is how do I get into this thing?

Looks like “panel” on the bottom must snap off somehow. Anyone done this?

Got it apart w/o breaking any plastic! It only took one beer.

So the mirror is glued in. All you have to do is pry it off and disconnect 3 wires. Anyone know what kind of glue I need to put it back?

Found this vid. There is no sound and I think if there was sound, it would be in Russian.

This guy breaks the mirror all the way down. I’m in almost as deep but I’m not going to take the wire loom apart (I hope).

So I was unable to fix it. Whatever is wrong is in the retractor actuator which, even if I took that apart, I'm not sure I'd be able to fix it. I found the retractor assembly on line for $155. It will be a bit painful to replace as you have to wire the harness plug.

So I got the new mirror parts today. The sucky part of replacing the retract actuator is the you have to take apart the wiring harness to get the old actuator out. Then you have to wire the new harness plug or rewire the old one (assuming you don’t destroy it when you take it apart).

This wiring diagram is not really useful as it does not indicate what color wire is witch. My plan is to write down each PIN number and wire color. What a PITA.

Holy crap, ya that does look like a pain.

Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Somehow, at this point, buying the $900 complete replacement mirror assembly doesn’t seem so bad....
