Well, another year I will miss due to a bum knee.

This is one of my favorite events and I keep missing it.

Hope you all have a great weekend...I will be thinking about the good times.

Ah bummer. Hopefully we'll see you at the Ultimate SNT?

Good to hear you're coming Keith. Are you bringing the 40? Coming with the family?

Tina and I won't be in until Saturday, so maybe you want to save us a spot near you.

Based on your colorful description of your previous camping trip, I will make sure to bring a large fire extinguisher!:flipoff2:

We have to wait until Sat for the Magical Minstrel :grinpimp:

bad news - no time for shirts this year. i'm up to my eyeballs in work, a divorce, trying to keep my life in order.......yak yak yak.
good news - i have every intention of actually hosting a "stocker run" on sunday morning. want to take all the 45s and whoever else feels like it up to the pass via the dirt road that heads past both blue lakes. very scenic, easy trail and a great spot for the kids to get some driving time.

As long as you show up that's all that matters. If you have any of last years hoodies bring em, I know my brother will take a couple :D

Spotted, white fj45 with olive drab canvas top. It was headed west on I80 in northeast nevada near carlin tunnels. One of you guys? Nice rig

I’m planning on coming up Friday; this will be the first time up for me. Is there GPSR coordinates for the camp or directions to it so I won’t end up passing it?
Thanks
Ken

I used Yahoo maps and came up with

38.592172,-119.919803

for the location of the camp site. The last turn at the damn on to deer valley rd is a bit tricky. Hopefully it will be flagged.

Yahoo maps has me taking the Mormon Emigrant trail instead of going to south shore. Never been on that road - how is it?

Georg, we'd love to do the 'family' run on Sunday. Let me know if you need any help.

You want me to try to get some t-shirts made?

Peter

well looks like We're not making the trip :(

Have fun everyone!!

Mormon Emigrant is one of the most fun roads in the sierra. It gets very little traffic and it goes through some beautiful forests. Much faster than taking 50 to South Shore.

Thanks Alvaro, we'll do it.

Can someone give me the general rundown of the trip? I am going to join you guys but I am trying to convince the wife to go and bring our 3.5 year daughter. Will there be other families (sounds like there will) Do we have a base camp and venture out from there? Is there anything I can bring to contribute? Looking forward to meeting all of you. Ill be on 146.460 as KI6LGK and sending out APRS positions as well if I can hit something up there.

base camp is at the northern creek crossing. it's the first one you hit coming in from hwy88; about 2 miles down the trail from the dam at blue lakes.

families?! yeah. lots of them. my 3-year-old son will be making his first appearance at this years' event. lots of kids, wives, dogs, a stream to play in, lots of shade,.........

if you feel the need to contribute something ( and you're more than welcome to do so ), then bring something for the raffle. check my next post for more raffle info.

aside from that, bring a folding chair and get ready to relax. this event is all about taking it easy and just getting away from it all for a few days with like-minded cruiser nerds. :grinpimp:

RAFFLE

most people are aware of how this works but here goes:

this event is not "for profit" or to promote a business or anything else. it's a birthday party. so the raffle is a little different than most.

i contact all the vendors i deal with and get them to help out with raffle prizes. this is a 2-3 month process that involves a lot of emails, phone calls, greasing the wheel,....you get the picture. and most of the vendors are very supportive and more than happy to help out. so we get a bunch of prizes that way.
it's also become somewhat customary for attendees to bring a raffle prize. does'nt have to be anything fancy, special or expensive. a box of nitrile gloves, some hand cleaner, a pocket knife, whatever. obviously does'nt even need to be cruiser related although it's encouraged.
in the past, the raffle prizes have ranged from a 6-pack of beer to a complete roll cage and everything in between. and i mean everything.

how do you get tickets? you show up in a cruiser! i don't sell tickets, you can't register for them, you can't win them. you have to show up in a cruiser with a few very strict exceptions.
it's really simple: show up in a cruiser, get ONE raffle ticket. right before the raffle, we count the # of tickets we handed out and then all the prizes are grouped together in that number of "prize packages". in other words, you're guaranteed to win something.
the main prizes get set aside for the FJ45s since they're the stars of the show. either way, you're gonna win something.

there is also a cash raffle. this one is simple as well. you can buy as many tickets as you want at $10 each. all the tickets go in a box and we draw one winning ticket at the end of the regular prize raffle. tyhe winning ticket gets 50% of the money we've collected. the other half gets donated to the "friends of the rubicon" foundation to help keep our trails open.

last but not least. you are in no way required or expected to buy cash raffle tickets or bring a raffle prize. it's up to you. but we'll burn you at the stake if you dont! :hillbilly:

jk

hope that all makes sense.

Thanks Georg, I will let her know. She may not be up for it this year but I have been given the green light.

Are there toilets or do we need to bring our own. I need to order one now if I need to bring my own ( unless there is a vendor that can deliver one to camp :))

bring a toilet. or get a hold of paul decker, he is supposed to be coming to the event and sells them. his shop is in petaluma. great products!

also, keep in mind we'll be camping at 7k feet. it usually dips down into the mid to high 20s at night so bring warm clothes. we're in the sierras so be prepared for anything. anything.

Thanks, I will call Paul tomorrow. I went to his shop some time ago to pick up a water heater and a shower/ potty tent, I guess its time to add the potty. He's got a pretty cool place.

I just got back from tahoe last weekend from a 4 day camping trip and the weather was perfect. One night was actualy a bit on the warm side. I hope for more of the same but will come prepared.
