Georg,
I can't make it this year, am involved in a work party removing the logjam at the bridge at the bottom of big sluice over Labor Day weekend. Have to see you on some other trail.

Bumped into Danny (iirc) on the Deer valley trail yesterday. He has an fj40 and knows you. He figured that since I was driving a 70 that I had to know you as well! It's a small world.

bad news - no time for shirts this year. i'm up to my eyeballs in work, a divorce, trying to keep my life in order.......yak yak yak.
good news - i have every intention of actually hosting a "stocker run" on sunday morning. want to take all the 45s and whoever else feels like it up to the pass via the dirt road that heads past both blue lakes. very scenic, easy trail and a great spot for the kids to get some driving time.

georg

It aint about the shirt Brother :D and if it makes you feel better I will be bringing my own blank T Shirt and a magic marker you chciken scratch 45 run sign and date it and I will be sporting it Proudly at SnT .

ps: i'll post proper directions in the next couple of days.

Found on another site.

The Deer Valley Trail connects highway 88 and highway 4. This scenic trail has two water crossings which can be moderately deep in the spring and early summer. Some of the more challenging sections include large boulders and off-camber spots adjacent to steep hillsides.

Requirements: To participate in the 45 run, you will need to have 4WD. Plenty of liquid neck oil refreshments are recommended to prevent damage, although this trail can be navigated by a stock truck and some careful spotting.

Directions: From highway 88 exit on Blue Lakes Road. Blue Lakes Road is about 2.5 miles west of the highway 88/highway 89 intersection and about 67 miles east of the highway 88/highway 49 intersection. Follow Blue Lakes road about 12 miles. You will come to an information display for the Blue Lakes campgrounds. Take a left and follow the shore of the lake to the trailhead.

Gas Up: If you are heading up highway 88 get gas in Jackson. If you are heading up highway 4 stop for gas in Arnold.

GPS Coordinates:
Highway 88 trailhead: N38°36.480 W119°55.523
Highway 4 trailhead: N38°32.341 W119°53.803

Hope I can make this.

I'll be there!

Road Delays

Just a FYI to you folks going up Friday. There is a stop light for road work just east of Kirkwood. Possible 2 hour delay on weekdays.

"Shortcut" up Strawberry canyon?

:D

:D

Nope. The red light is on the east side of Carson Pass.
Not too bad we were there this weekend. Did Deer Valley from 4 to 88.
Once we got to Blue Lakes we drove on dirt roads to Red Lake. From there we took 88 to the Caples Lake Maintenance Station where we picked up the Strawberry Trail.

It was fun!

Well, another year I will miss due to a bum knee.

This is one of my favorite events and I keep missing it.

Hope you all have a great weekend...I will be thinking about the good times.

Planning on attending, would be a first timer although my roof rack attended last year with Mark. Would like to arrive on Friday...is their a meeting point/location for Friday?

the best meeting place would be the camp site on deer valley trail on the highway 88 side off blue lakes road

Is there a 2M channel everyone's running in that area? What's the best repeater out there?

Not really any repeaters accessible out there, it's Deer VALLEY afterall.

I have scanned some from the area in the past but didn't keep track of any.

That being said you should be able to raise a few listeners on Norcal simplex 146.460 on the trail.

Andy,

I'll be on 146.460 when I head out.

Regards

Alvaro

Good to hear you're coming Keith. Are you bringing the 40? Coming with the family?

Tina and I won't be in until Saturday, so maybe you want to save us a spot near you.

Based on your colorful description of your previous camping trip, I will make sure to bring a large fire extinguisher!:flipoff2:

Mark, plan on showing up with the FJ40, trying to get the wife to come - she works at Costco and is trying to get the time off. Hopefully no more melted tents!
