Hey guys,

I figure someone here will be able to give a quick answer to this...

There's a great deal on a Icon stage 5 kit here locally for the +2010 4runner/FJ.
All parts in the kit match with the 4th gen 4runner kit except the front coil-overs.
What is the difference in the front shocks between these platforms?
Has anyone tried to fit these on our rigs or is it just a no go?

Cheers,

J

You said 3rd Gen, but I assume you mean 4th Gen if you're talking about 120 Series GX and 4R.

One difference is that the bushing on the lower strut mount is wider on the 5th Gen than on the 4th Gen. OEM 5th gen struts can be made to fit the 4th Gen by trimming the metal bushing slightly with a grinder, but I cannot tell you for sure about the Icon strut. There may be other differences too, maybe with the coil rate.

Thanks for the reply, yes I meant 4th gen I fixed that in my post.

Well if its just the bushing trimming like you said isn't an issue.
I'd have to believe that there are some other differences, what say you guys??

So after some further digging around it seems like this should be pretty much a direct swap with only some minor modifications to the front lower shock mount and the remote reservoir brackets.
That said I'll wait around to see if anyone else on here can chime in...

Thanks!

I also seem to recall that on OEM shocks the upper shafts on rear shocks are thicker on 5th gen than 4th gen, which would require drilling on your truck to mount them.

I'd contact Icon to see if the rear shocks are truly the same and to see if there is a difference in the coil spring rate between 4th and 5th gen.
