Have you found the 8k winch to be sufficient for such a big tree?

Well to tell you the truth, I have yet to need it. At the time, it was about the largest thing that would fit. That said, I didn't personally do the leg work to understand what would and wouldn't fit. I have a couple of snatch blocks if I need to do any really heavy work or get a favorable leverage ratio. I'm leaving for Death Valley in May and will see if it's needed then...

My thoughts about the IRS? It's an absolute pita getting any aftermarket support for it. At the time I started working on my rig (2010), nothing was available. Since then, I know of a couple of outfits that are starting to make stuff which is awesome. I think there's a lot of potential for the Sequoia or at least more than what people give it credit for. Sure it's big w/ IRS but it's super comfy to travel with.

That is a gorgeous rig! I have toyed with switching up and getting a 2nd gen. The 5.7 alone is about worth it to me, I wish I had that power in my 100, and with a slight lift and aggressive tires it looks straight badass.
What does it have for factory traction control? LSD or ATRAC, and do you like how it performs? Any plans on locking up the differential, or have you not had enough of a need to? I figure with independent rear you probably wouldn't be tackling too hardcore of trails, and judging by your pictures/videos the truck handles just fine as is with your driving skills and precision.

Thanks! I love the 5.7. Super powerful. As for the traction control, it's the same/similar drive train as the LC200 without the solid rear axle. So I have H/L transfer case, center diff lock, and the accoutrement of electrical nannies, i.e. ATRAC. So far the rig has performed great. It hasn't limited me in any task. Sure it may take a little more finesse or tries to complete an obstacle but it gets it done. It's not going to be a great rock crawler, break over can be limiting but it's been fun going places and challenge fun obstacles. I'd say for most it will work fine. I hope they don't neuter the next gen.

Hi Az - I got them from Brian Jowette, Jowette Engineering. I believe he's also on this board. You will need to coordinate spring length and shock length. So there is a bit of homework to do. Also, there are others manufacturer's coming out with stuff for the Sequoia. Something to think about.

Oh nice I’ve messaged him once on tundrasolutions.com but haven’t gotten a reply... I wonder if he still offer the rear custom work for the sequoia. And which other manufacturer’s are coming out stuff for the sequoia so I can keep an eye out for it?

The one that seems to have the most promise is the Radflo system. That said, I have not done my homework on them and this is just input from others. I have given them a call prior and it does seem that they are willing to valve per spring rate which is nice. I would want to understand shock extended/compressed length for the respective lift desired. I can tell you that a 20" shock length should be good for at least 2 1/2" of lift. Understand the compressed length to ensure that you don't bottom out too quickly. I believe the Kings compressed length is 14" but it's been a while since I've looked at the numbers.

Thanks and great question. Understand what I would change now is different than what I could do at the time. In 2010, there was zero aftermarket support for the Sequoia which is why a lot of my stuff is custom. Outside of sharing the Tundra front end (A pillar forward), you couldn't really find much.

All that said, what would I do different? Probably not much. I absolutely love my Icon front shocks. Damping is spot on. I wish they made something for the rear. Radflo recently came out with a suspension kit that looks promising. My King rear shocks are still not valved right and that's something I would change and looking to change. I've seen some others post using Tundra underside body armor which I thought was cool. Using the Tundra gas tank strap allows you to use the Tundra gas tank armor. I like my Total Chaos UCA and they've lasted a long time on the standard solid bearing. The offset of my wheels allows me to run 34" tires without rubbing. I'm looking at getting a swing out rear bumper and possibly front bumper. If I change the front bumper, it would remove the need for my hidden winch. Oh, and I wouldn't mind updating my lighting configuration (head light, fogs, and auxiliary).

For my needs, my build works out pretty well. I haven't had a need for built-in drawers, fridge, or a full length rack. Actually, one thing I may look into are quick connect sway bar links for more articulation. I guess there are other cool things with electrical distribution/backup systems but time and cost inhibit projects like that. But that's about it. Let me know if you have any other questions about the build.

hi im a new member on this forum and im following your thread and im interested in suspension set up..been looking for a stiffer rear coil spring and nitrogen shock either icon or Radflo for my 2010 and i can’t find one.

Awesome build, really inspirational! I recently purchased an ‘11 Platinum and can’t wait to get started. Sadly with the airbag set up in the rear there does not seem to be much for lifts. Revtec makes a 2” spacer for the front and supposedly you can adjust the airbags to get about 1.5” in the rear... wondering how hard it would be to swap over to a coil/shock set up. Our plans are to pull a small rc, like a rpod or similar and set up a base camp then get out and explore, probably won’t be tackling real tough trails but I would like to be as cabable as possible

I haven't updated this thread in a long time. So glad to finally see a Sequoia thread in ih8mud!

Since this thread, I've done the additional following;
- Changed tires from Toyo MTs to Toyo RTs to Nitto Ridge Grapplers. The Ridge Grapplers are an awesome tire. Probably one of my favorites with a good compromise of on-road manners to off road durability. I hated the RTs. The sidewalls were too soft and would fold over in turns and cause the car to tuck quickly in a corner which is not a good feeling. I went through 3 sets of Toyo MTs. Love the looks but at 50% tread, I couldn't handle the tire roar. I also went from 285/70/18 to 295/70/18. There's minor rubbing but nothing substantial.
- Added a rooftop tent, awning, and custom 80/20 mount for recovery tracks, gas, and shovel
- Changed rear shocks to King's with Resi.

Some near term wants;
- Armored rear bumper with dual swingouts
- Armored front bumper
- Rear locker and possibly front locker

Here's a side view with the tent. I got the Tepui Autana 3 person. Really it's more like a 2+. I wanted to get a hardshell like an iKamper but that takes up too much roof space and I needed a place for gas and tracks. The Roof Nest Condor Overland is only a little longer and that could be a good option.

The only one that I know that is Sequoia specific is Tandem. I believe all the other ones are Tundra specific but will work on the Sequoia. That said, I will most likely get the Tandem Off-road. I’d like to get the rear first as I really want to get stuff off my roof.

I ended up cancelling the order. Wouldn’t be here until (hopefully) at least the end of July - at best. Went with the DV8 bumper.
