"Utility" doesn't mean just towing. It also means wheeling, camping, bringing lumber home, and a whole host of other things that a "normal" automobile can't do.
Back to the original point, acceleration numbers shouldn't be your top priority when you buy a two ton truck.

My 100 and a new 200 can do all of that and easily (and WITHOUT the poo-poos of a diesel). What can a 100 diesel do that a 100 V8 cannot? Don't even say crawl up or down a hill.

Looking for a new Cruiser
diesals are making a comeback, but i wonder how the politics will play out. Lots of Money got dumped into ethanol, and with the American Gas companies making 10-11 billion in profit, I wonder if they will allow the diesal pumps to get added. Right now, there are very few Diesal pumps compared to gas.
Statements above said the 5.7 is only being sold in the states, last I checked Lexus calls it the LX570 everywhere it sells it, worldwide, so no it's not just a US thing
I do agree that toyota jacked their prices to squeeze margin out of buyers, the LC/LX has long been one of the most profitable units to sell, and with Oil hitting 100 plus, I think we are going to see some of this get passed onto the consumer. the question is how much is too much to spend on gas. those of you who lived in the 70's know better than I. If I recall from history class, people would buy two or three cars to have enought to get back and forth from work, and the ones that could afford it, where the old wealthier retired group???
Shotts, i am not sure about the smell thing, you may want to run down to the Local VW dealer and test out the Diesal, it is nice, not a LandCruiser, but nice, and I don't remember any smell.

Don't care about VW. Here we're talking about Land Cruisers. There's not a diesel LC model made that compares to the V8 in my book.
Same holds true with trucks. The 5.7L V8 is my choice. The Big Three new diesels best the old ones but they still suffer some of the negative effects that the Tundra V8 does not. I don't tow yachts so there's no reason to live with an inferior perfoming motor (and one that STILL stinks when you get on it).
I was thinking ML by the way.

Oh, and I already gave you a Benz, the E320. It matches or bests the RX-8. When the C400 biturbo diesel arrives (if it ever does), it should match the likes of the BMW M3 and Audi RS4.

This is a LAND CRUISER forum....specifically 200-series though the same applies to 100-series. Can anybody answer this question?
A 100 or 200 diesel can pull up to the gas station and fill up with diesel. A 100/ 200 gasser cannot...

For somebody who tows big = YES. One's need forces the demand for the diesel.
I've stated I don't need that application (towing) and therefore the diesel is not required.

In other words.......
If somebody states on a thread that they have the need to tow 10K...15K, whatever......you'll not hear A WORD from me about diesels. If I had that need I would end up with one.
We're talking CRUISERS here. Tell me what one thing the 100/200 diesel can do the V8's cannot? Don't say:
Crawl up and down rocks/grades better
Breaks lower front arms
