Just saw an full page add in the local news paper for the 2006 100.. they have it on display in the agent's showroom but I haven't seen it yet.. they didn't mention anything about vvti in the add.. I6 is 4500cc and V8 is 4700 cc.. new grill, new lights, aluminum 17" wheels, new side step and new colors.. that's all the info mentioned in the add

seems that Toyota is riding the bling bling wave with the new grill guard etc.. me no likey..

darn, that thing looks fat...!

grill belongs on an infiniti.

Based on the Toyota US website, the US version is much more toned down. Hard to tell any difference b/w the '05 and '05, actually. Of course, all Toyota did was use last year's pictures and photoshop the new grill and taillights.

The 06 will have vvti, the engine has 275hp and 332 for the torque, it also now has height control, that will allow the vehicle to lift up and extra 2.5 inches!

I am really surprised that Toyota is not providing the US market with all the options we have here.. my 04 has active height control and I think it was provided on 100s since 2002..

usually, with other Japanese car makers we don't get the options or even the cars you guys have in the US.. for example, Mitsubishi eclipse is not available here (don't know if they still make it, I really liked that little car).. Even Toyota, they did not release the Tacoma, tundra, sequoia etc in the gulf..

That looks like a Japanese model to me. The Australian models are hardly any different than the previous model. Tacoma Tundra and Sequoia are all US only models not sold anywhere else I believe.

they would not dare sell them to discriminating customers... sigh...!
:D

I stopped by the showroom today.. they only hand some I6 models there.. no V8 yet.. they still have the lower range I6 with steel wheels and cloth.. they had a couple high range I6s also.. the head lights looked fine to me.. the grill is pushing it a little, they didn't have one with the chrome grill yet which is a good thing in my book.. all the 06 models I saw were IFS with no AHC..

I didn't like the tail lights.. the lower and upper part are recessed and the middle part is sticking out.. the side steps sucked.. the older ones looked much better.. I wasn't much interested in the 06 because not much has changed for the I6.. they had an 05 diesel cloth with manual tranny, sunroof and factory winch.. I was thinking about trading in my V8 for that.. sweet rig.. no pictures this time me was in a hurry :P

Maybe that's because the tundra, tacoma, sequoia aren't durable enough for conditions harsher than driving to the neighborhood mall?

Also note that the pics of the 100 you've posted, as well as the Japan market ones, have the front headlight washer (going back a number of years). Also, the rear diff lock is still available (on all but US market 100s?).

Jim, you're probably right about the tundra, Tacoma and sequoia.. some small dealerships have imported Tundras and Tacomas but they are not very popular pickups.. older wiser people here prefer the land cruiser truck.. younger drivers tend to love the avalanche for some reason.. the avalanche is not available here but people are importing these lame trucks like crazy.. it pisses me off sometimes..

The rear diff I know was available since 1998.. the sprinkler thingy I'm not sure about, my 04 has them and older LX470s were also equipped with that..

Now the hilux has been proven to be durable and a standard workhorse on many continents. We used to get 'em here, until Toyota figured out the American public changed their vehicles every 5 yrs (like their houses) and is willing to pay $$$ for trendy styling, bigger engines, and high-profit bling gizmos. Hence the Tundra/Tacoma are sold here instead of the 70 series pickup/troopy and hilux dual cab turbo diesel.

Here's a more clear pic of the 2006 LC offered over here...
