If you where in Houston, I tell you to take to a friend of mind, but your not. If you don't have a independent shop you really trust, then I would say the dealer. And yes you need to factor in the rent car, it will be an added cost in this, unless you can do without.

Thanks for the advice. Should have it back from dealer in two days... looking forward to it.

Here's hoping it comes back perfect

Here's the other question..and maybe this was answered but I didnt see it..but what caused the engine to undergo the failure in the first place? Lack of oil? Overheating?

As far as I know it was the timing belt. The car dealer had his mechanic replace the original engine so I didn't have direct contact with him. (Which I hated). Wasn't over heating at all when it happened. The knock sensor shut the vehicle down though. Was able to restart later only running on a few cylinders. I scoured the internet and couldn't find one case of a GX ACTUALLY BUSTING a timing belt... so I guess there's a first time for everything.

Ohhh I missed that. So the truck already had a replacement engine in it when you bought it? So you're onto engine #3?

Update: I've had the car back since Friday and it's running great! Really glad that I had the work done at Lexus. Drove from San Antonio to Austin and was like driving on a cloud... MPG's were better than I thought on the highway. Nice surprise.
I'll be buying some AT KO2's to replace tires and taking off running boards soon. Will post pics soon.
Thanks for the advice fellas!
