Hi everyone, my 2002 Land Cruiser has non-functional trailer lights.
The factory 4 pin connector has no power at any of the four pins.
I've looked around the forum and searched, but it seems like most of the issues are model year 98 and 99 cruisers/LXs.

I also followed the harness up around the spare tire to where it connects with anotehr harness, no power there.
Then I took off the plastic cover inside the car on the rear drivers side to try to find this mysterious black box, but didn't see it. Does that not apply to models after 1999?

The mysterious black box I see in other threads is called a "TOYOTA 15 amp taillight converter auto circuit protection".

I'm super confused on what the issue is here. Does my 2002 LC have this black box?
I've checked all the fuses I can find and none are blown. All brake/tail/turn signals work without issue, front and rear.

What else could the issue be? TIA!

Ok, so a bit more progress. It looks like the 2000-2002 models have a different module, a red plastic box with a bunch of markings, also in that rear drivers side (photo attached):

These don't appear to be available anywhere except used on eBay which is too much of a crapshoot for me, so it's gonna have to be swapped to something else entirely. Can I just get something like is linked here in this thread or do you guys have specific recommendations that will work for the 2000-2002 models?

I think you can just buy a generic trailer wiring module and splice in the wiring. That's what i had to do on my 99. I think it was like $30 bucks. But check out this thread. May be beneficial.

Also, I didn't click on your link above but I think my link below is saying the same thing. So yes, I think you can buy a generic trailer wiring module and it'll work.

Ok so I dug a bit deeper and pulled off that red box. Turns out there's a 30a inline fuse that was popped in my case. I replaced it and all the pins in the 4 pin connector have power, so lights, turn signals, etc are working. I guess my little red trailer light converter box is fine.

You have to remove a few trim pieces to get to the 10mm bolt holding the bracket in, but it's not hard. Took me only about 20 minutes total to be able to see the fuse. Pic below. You can see the bright green fuse under that yellow-ish plastic cover.

Will it pop again as soon as I hook up a trailer? Who knows! But for now this is good enough and I'll keep digging.

Hope this helps someone else!

You have a problem, somewhere. That fuse is there to prevent the problem from becoming a catastrophic failure. You really do not want a voltage spike on a CanBUS network.

Very well could be the case. Just went to the u-haul rental place and all lights worked fine. We'll see how long it lasts. If I have to do anything else in the future, I'll add it here
