Just purchased a 2001 Sequoia as a project. The section of exhaust containing the catalytic converter on the drivers side needs to be replaced because it has several holes in it. I found a reasonably priced aftermarket replacement.

Here is my question, I removed the bolts at the header and the bolts where it meets the resonator and have the section of pipe including the catalytic converter free from the muffler hanger. I can't seem to get it out of the vehicle. Has anyone done this? Am I missing something? When trying to move it back it hits the skid plate on the gas tank. Obviously I could cut it out, but that doesn't help me with putting the new one in. Do I need to drop the fuel tank to get the section of pipe out?

Another question, where the two pipe enter the large resonator, there are holes in the pipe. They almost look intentional. Are there suppose to be holes in the pipe. I wouldn't think so, but they seem intentional.

Thank you for any insight you can provide.
