There is a thread on how to repair the module to fix this issue. The repair worked on mine. Only 20 cents worth of parts. If you can solder you can probably fix it. I still have a couple of the componants if you need one.
Sorry I don't know how to link the thread but this is the title:

Fix for ABS, VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, & Brake lights remain on no CEL, or how to repair an ECU

Did you ever fix this?
I'm sorry, I've been away for a while. I did fix it, but I wound up replacing the entire master cylinder assembly, all electronics. Expensive repair but Toyota considers the master cylinder replacement at 150k to be normal maintenance, and I had a friends whose failed and luckily he was going uphill instead of down. That was the straw that broke the camels back on replacement. No issues since.

My recommendation to anyone that has this issue and cannot make any of the easy things in this thread work, to replace if you plan on keeping a 20 year old vehicle. Stay safe out there.

Chiming in here as this thread was very helpful me. I have a 2001 J100 with 334k miles and after a routine oil change (in which vehicle was lifted and one of some of the wheels were rotated for inspection - but out of sync with each other) the AbS, VSC, and Active Traction lamps on dash all illuminated. We also experienced the same non-communication with ABS computer when connecting to the OBD2 port (whereas all other vehicles systems were communicating).

After some electronic backtracking and consults with reputable landcruiser shops, and reading this thread, we determined it was most likely a ABS/VSC module that had gone bad.

I got a used one on eBay (reputable seller and the unit appeared to be in good condition) and replaced it, and voila...after a short drive around the block, all the dash lights went off!

Search for part number 89540-60160 and be sure you have a long ratchet extension and flexible hip, back and shoulder (it's a pain to reach up under the brake pedal and R&R this module) :)
