Any ideas on replacement charcoal canister options for a 2000LC? The OEM one is discontinued, and the Tundra alternative also appears to now be discontinued (I placed an order for one from ToyotaPartsDeal got an email back from them that it's been discontinued).

I just ordered an aftermarket one off rock auto for a tundra( i have the under hood canister and the tundra is similar) They have two options. This was out of desperation as both the lc and tundra canisters were discontinued by Toyota. I was going to rebuild mine but didn't really want to take down the vehicle if i failed to seal it properly.

Did you pay $700 for the Wells unit?

I bought the tundra version. It was 400 after shipping and tax. Couldn't bring myself to pay 700 for a part that wasn't even oem

Well I got my charcoal canister. Opened it up to a fun surprise!
It's actually the Toyota/ denso CC!

This was the tundra canister which i bought because it will fit and its cheaper than the LC one. The only real difference is the mounting hole locations. I thought I'd need to cut off the tundra mounts but it wasn't even necessary. The whole thing took 5 minutes. Literally the easiest maintenence I've ever done in the LC.

So if you buy the wells unit, i think you'll be getting a denso 😁

what’s the year of the Tundra and the part number you confirmed fit the Land Cruiser? When I search the part number on the unit in your pic, it shows as NLA and out of stock at rock

This may be an opportunity for someone to offer rebuilt units. I have a good one from a 99 LX. I picked up a used one from eBay. I have a Tundra and a 100 that can use the same unit.

I wonder if some of the issues reported are from old hoses and a purge valve that are deteriorating. I would like to replace the hoses and look into a new purge valve.

@Brandon Ryder - can you post up the part number you ordered?
Wells 4B1090
They only had 1 in stock when I purchased so it might be OOS.
They had the LC one too. Also wells but it was like 650. The tundra one fits but doesn't bolt in. But the mount bracket is the same. Slides in and is pretty solid even without being bolted in

From the guys who cut open their original canisters to replace the charcoal, they reported that they found rust in the ports. I wonder if the charcoal is fine but maybe brushing out the ports would clear the obstructing corrosion. I kept my old one just in case since the parts are NLA.
FYI the new charcoal canister has completely resolved my gas tank pressure issues. Drove it in high temp weather to Denver and previously it would have gas smell from the charcoal canister after a drive like that, and pressurized gas tank when removing the gas cap. Now it's completely normal. Had previously replaced the VSV that is mounted on the manifold which didn't resolve the issue. Maybe the valve on the canister is the problem?

I'm curious if there is a way to resolve the rusty post issue with a less invasive procedure than cutting the canister body open? Could a valve repair be accomplished by drilling only a couple of holes, similar to orthoscopic surgery, but using a borescope and a small brush?

The issue with NLA canisters brings back a similar situation that I saw in an Infiniti club 15 years ago. Those cars used a round canister. The club found a substitute canister from a completely different type of vehicle would work without much adaptation.

Comparing canisters. Tundra.

Seems these are impossible to find unless you go used.
